Emerald Vibe w/ RICO layout
« on: April 24, 2009, 03:20:30 PM »
Anyone here throwing an Emerald Vibe with a RICO layout? I picked a used one up off someone I know, not a whole lot of games on it. I got it pretty cheap and I thought about getting it set up with the RICO layout. Couple of questions
My speed is around 15.5-16.5 depending on the shot, more comfortable with a down and in type of shot, left foot on 10 (I'm right handed) get he ball out to around to around 4-5. Would the Vibe set up RICO style be a decent choice for this type of shot? I used to be a cranker when I was younger and with the right conditions, I can still move left and swing my shot, but I prefer staying down and in / tweener. All of my balls are set up PIN to the right of ring finger, how much of a different shot would the RICO give me?

A lot of your style sounds a lot like me, including the fact that we both use to hook it.  I also can and do occassionally step left and swing the ball.  However, I seem to have a lot of trouble with fresh oil.  I drilled up a Cherry Vibe with the rico drilling on it and it is really working out good so far.  It lets me get closer to the friction on the fresh oil and really is a smooth continuous ball.  I don't know how the emerald would be different because I haven't thrown one of them, just the cherry.  But the core in the vibe really took to the rico set up.

Mine was pretty close to being Rico... it was money on the lighter summer shot before I messed up my wrist.  I had way too much area at the break point.

A Rico layout on a Vibe is not a good idea. One of the key features of the layout is the xhole. Because of the shape of the core, the xhole does not remove any core material and does not impart that little bit of asymmetry thats supposed to be there.

Thanks for the replies, I think I won't ry the RICO layout with this one, but what about a RICO layout on a Brunswick Monster Bruiser? I'm going to post this question in the Brunswick forum also?

You're so full of BS it isn't even funny...

The ONLY ball I've ever had an issue with the Rico layout not doing what it's intended to do was when I tried it on a Tropical Storm.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t work jerk off. I said it wasn’t a good idea. With that core shape, it makes it very difficult to hit the core with the x-hole 6 ¾ from the pin to give it that asymmetry.

AND…he asked if it was a good layout to use for the down and in shot he wants to play.
