Having problems with....
« on: January 15, 2004, 06:08:39 AM »
Both Hammer balls I own, Viscious Particle and Turbo Diesel. I cant get either ball to move at all. I threw the Viscious Particle on a med/hvy shot and the ball just skids. It is drilled like this: 2"pin, drilled below ring, cg swung out 1.5" past pin. Weight hole on PAP. Why wont this ball move?? It is in box surface. Please help.

On to the Turbo diesel, 3"pin drilled above and to the right of ring, cg and mb stacked directly below. MB ends up right on the right edge of my thumb. Again, I have thrown this on a med shot with clean backends, med shot with carrydown, you name it. Ball wont move at all. The surface looks as if it has been dulled but not much at all. I try to play up 10 with both balls and neither one gets to the pocket. I usually go head on with the 3 or end up in the 3-6. Whats wrong here??

I don't know what to say.  I've seen a few Vicious Particles and it's a very aggressive ball.  Maybe with that strong of a cover, a shorter pin and an early rolling drill, it just wants to roll immediately off your hand.  Polish it up as a test.  If it gets down the lane and has a decent backend, save it for heavier oil or redrill it for length.  Sorry, no experience with a Turbo Diesel.

I have a Viscious Particle with a straight label drill and it's very agressive.  Don't know what to tell you.

Other balls thrown on the same condition do hook?  All of my Hammer stuff hooks more than I'd like and none of it is as aggressive as what you've got.  Granted, some of that is likely the difference in the operator...

Janderson, yes, I have other equipment that hooks alot on the same condition.  I usually throw a V2 particle and that ball just flat out moves. I know the Viscious Particle is earlier, but it didnt break at all.

As for the Turbo Diesel, same thing when compared to my Voodoo. Similar drill on both balls but the Voodoo moves alot in the midlane and backend, the Diesel doesnt!!

I have both balls and have had no problem with either of them.

Vicious rolls very early (for me even earlier than the V2 Part. I had).  It doesn't appear to hook alot but it does what it is supposed to do in the oil which is to get the ball heading toward the pocket with some drive.

My Turbo is drilled very similar to yours.  Turbo is a very good ball for me on the medium conditions.  The ball gives me unexpectedly good length and then a strong, continuous arc into the pocket.  I have other stuff that looks more impressive from break point to pins (X-Factor, for example), but the Turbo's drive and hit is toward the top of the class.  Usually carries very well.

Not sure what to suggest.  I am fairly slow with my speed and don't have all that many rev's.  I usually like a little 13 to 8 bump shot.

Very odd - given that additional piece of information, I'd be inclined to go with Strider's suggestion.  It might be that your equipment wants to hook too early and is dying at your feet.  Good luck!

How can that be if the lanes are oiled enough where a ball wont burn energy?? I tried to use the Viscious Particle again tonight on my second shift league. Apparently they redid the lanes today with a new coat of protectant, then oiled fresh at about 4 p.m. when they opened. As noted, I was second shift and because of what they did to the lanes, the oil just sat on the lanes and carried down alot. So I pull out the Viscious Part. and proceed to throw my line, straight up 10. Finally the ball moved, but I didnt like the reaction I was getting from it. I think I will part with it now and stick with the V2 particle for heavier stuff. Now, what to do with the Turbo Diesel??

I have a Hammer Vicous Particle, finished at 800 grit, polished with a 3M compound for about a 2000 grit sheen. The ball is drilled 4 by 4, stacked levarage. I tried to set this ball up for when my V2 part was starting to roll up, and since I got this ball free, I messed with the stacked levarage.

On the right conditions, this ball rocks. The problem is I only found those conditions once. Most of the time it is skid city, or it rolls out very quickly.

Rock

With the cold weather on the east coast did these two happen to get left in the cold one night?  Just a thought from another cold weather bowler.

Bogeyman, hell no. I never leave my equipment in the car. Everything comes with me when I come in the house. Its all been sitting in my room which is a comfortable 65-70 degrees. I dont think that was it.
