Hammer arsenal?
« on: February 03, 2006, 02:03:44 PM »
Do you guys think this would be a good Hammer arsenal?

Heavy oil: Real Deal
Med oil: Road Hawg
Med oil: Doom

I don't see a need for a light oil or dry ball because the Doom can handle med thru dry.  I can adjust my ball speed to adjust to these conditions.  Plus the Doom can go coast to coast on these type of conditions.

So what do you guys think of this 3 ball arsenal from Hammer?

If you plan to use the Doom on anything close to dry you better be launching it.More likely Real Deal, Road Hawg,Raw Doom, and last but not least the Vibe.I own the Doom and once the shot breaks down you can't through it fast enough, but the Vibe will be wide open and carries awesome. This kinda blows the 3 ball thing but your asking an awful lot from the Doom on extremes when the Vibe will let you play your regular game when the shot goes.Hope this helps Thanks, Steve

I have thrown the Doom on a broken down dry shot.  I just take some hand out of the ball and launch it super speed.  If the lanes are so dry that it can't be used then I just change my hand position an really lower my revs.

I know what your saying though.  The vibe would probably fit the bill fine but i'm not interested in that ball.  I have an awesome 4 ball arsenal right now but I was thinking of picking up a couple more balls for next season.  I usually change my arsenal each season.  So I really like the Doom and will give some other Hammer balls a try.  If the other balls are any where  close to being as good as the Doom then I would be very happy.  The Doom is by far the best reactive bowling ball I have ever owned!

Hey,

For heavy oil I have seen the Real Deal and Hawg being thrown by team mates on my college team.  Both are very good balls

for Med-heavy to med i would go w/ the Big Rig Diesel (this ball doesn't hook as much as it is advertised to)

on med i would go w/ the doom i have seen and heard many good things from that ball... could also go w/ the one (ebonite owns hammer and this ball is great)

if you do at some point deside to get a dry lane ball...

on dry i would recomend a Switch Blade drilled 1:30 pin above the fingers.

I also absolutly love the PURE hammer (i have the black one)... it is a very different ball (urithain rather than reactive), very very very smooth, but stronger than i expected, good both dull and polished

if you want more info just msg me

I have a desert heat for dry lanes but have not used it much.  It's not part of my 4 ball arsenal.

Right now this is my 4 ball arsenal:
Heavy oil:Arsenal Aggressive
Med oil: Paradigm
Med oil: Arsenal Reactive
Med/light: Doom

All 4 balls in my arsenal are drilled the same(my favorite layout) pin above and in between the fingers(5.5" from pap, cg kicked right to almost 1oz, no balance holes).  I have a good amount of hand.  I also drilled each ball the same because I just let the cover and cores seperate the reactions.  This has worked very well for me.

I have never had a problem with any of these balls not being strong enough so I don't see a need to drill them any stronger.  I play on long oil shots all the time and even with this length layout the balls work great.

In the future I may drill 1 ball with a strong layout just for an xtreme condition.  I have run across a couple of conditions that nothing would hook.  I do have an old Unleashed drilled pin below the ring about 4.5" from pap and this ball is dulled really dull(80 grit).  I use this when the lane man or machine screwed up and put down a super heavy oiled pattern that nothing will hook on.  Well this 80 grit ball will hook on anything.

Oh I also had a black pure Hammer.  Yes that ball was super smooth.  Great ball for tough patterns.  I got rid of it when I dropped ball weight (16lb to 15lb).

Sounds like a solid line up to me. I haven't thrown or seen the Road Hawg, but have a Hawg Wild and for me, that'd be the pick over Road Hawg.

Maybe I'm stuck, but all the years of NOT wanting a ball to absorb oil, and now wanting it to ???I'll stick with the Hawg Wild.

Again, you have a solid line up , with hand adjustments, and should just about have everything covered. Good Luck !!

Your right I didn't realize the road hawg has that oil absorbing cover.  I'm not sure about that ethier.  You would think a ball will only absorb so much oil.
