Title: I used my Toxic today and....
Post by: jkiser01 on November 26, 2006, 09:10:20 AM
I love it... I would say for me its a good 5 or so boards stronger than the Doom I had drilled the same way. The Toxic is drilled pin at approx 1 o'clock cg stacked under with no weight hole. Don't let the pearl cover scare you, this ball is very strong and it of course hits like a Hammer!!

The great thing about this ball for me was this. I was bowling on freshly oiled lanes that normally have some O/B and a good amount of oil in the middle of the lanes. I could play 15 out to 5 and still hit the pocket and then I moved and stood on 25 and played it out to 10 and it still hit the pocket. If I leaked it out a little, it would still recover. This ball rolls very nice for me and am glad I drilled it up. I can't wait to use it some more..

For anyone considering this ball for a medium - medium heavy condition, I would say buy it.. Great job Hammer, you have another winner here..

I just bought one of these too and its on the way.  I'm hoping it rolls more like the doom than the pain.  Love the doom, but the pain wasn't that much of a hit with me.  My hope is that it rolls like the doom without the over/under that was sometimes there....

Shane,

Thats really funny as I absolutley hated the Doom and love the Pain. I was hoping this ball would be nothing like the Doom was for me and its not.. The Doom was major over/under for me and I hated that ball I tried 2 layouts and both didn't work.. The Pain works great for oilier conditions as I have it dulled to 1000 abralon..

I think you will like the Toxic..

So, how does the Toxic differ from the Pain? Is it a similar roll with a few extra feet of length?

Well, if you want to get rid of that Toxic, I'll give up my single drill, 2 games total BW.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bell Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

No thanks on the BW, I didn't like that ball either..

as far as the other questions, I have no idea if this cover on the Toxic is stronger than the BW, sorry..

Also, my pain is dulled to 1000 abralon so it flat out hooks so I really can't compare the Toxic to the Pain. They are not the same ball at all..

Jim is not very versatile on balls. Once he finds a core or cover he likes, he pretty much has to stick to that. He usually needs a pretty strong coverstock from what I have seen to so it is no wonder he didn't like the Doom, Vibe, Etc....

Not a bad thing Jim, just my observance. I think because of your style and release, stronger covers work for you but I haven't really seeen you like the stronger cores either very well. Usually, the very Basic Ccores like the Raw line, and the stronger covers usually do well for you. Don't know why. Just my observation.

Hmmm...maybe I'm in a similar boat, then, as I seem to have the most success with simple cores and strong covers as well.  The Pain is my absolute favorite ball right now, while I'm not impressed by the Black Widow at all.  I did, however, have a lot of success with the Doom early on and over the summer, but it is rarely used since I got a hold of the Pain.

I'll add to this actually.  If I interpret the old wars that use to exist between the cover and the cores and what's more important, the best way to relate was the cover controlled your overall hook, but the core gave you the shape, be it extreme or whatever.

With Jim's release, and he knows this, it's a tug at the release to generate the forward and side roll.  For those that don't know Jim, you'd have to see the release to see what I mean.

I think the strong covers give Jim the protection needed when mistakes are made as a result of his style of release.  Strong cores tend to over accentuate the mistake in his release and cause more issues when entering the pins (i.e. way too late result in a wash or too early and going through the nose).

Jim, this is why I've always said that in the tourneys, when the lanes go south, there are times you are left scratching your head.  It's because of the overreaction you get with the stronger cores.

Just my thoughts....and by no means a dig.

Thanks to my friend gsback for pointing out all my flaws.. I will admit my style is not 100% by the book, but then again, who's is??

I guess if it wasn't for those strong cover balls I always use (to give me that extra protection I need), I would flat out stink..

All I was trying to point out in this post is I like the Toxic so far..

Jim and I talked and I feel bad about what I said.  It wasn't a dig at all and as both Charles and Jim know, my style is by no means better than the next person.

We all make mistakes in our release and I will say that I am no exception in that statement.  Sometimes I get a little help in the recovery back to the pocket and sometimes I don't.  That's the way it goes.  I have some advantages that help with the way I bowl.

So...again....not meant as a bad thing.  All I was doing was commenting along with what Charles had pointed out and was agreeing...and adding a little more to it.

Sorry......

No problem Gary, I know it was not meant as a dig, but as bad as my bowling game is right now, I just took it the wrong way.. No hard feelings..
