Doom comparison needed
« on: November 15, 2006, 11:04:35 PM »
Hi there,

can anyone tell how well the Raw Hammer Doom and the Vicious Attack compare? Background is that I am (still) looking for a replacement of my aging Vicious Attack (for medium conditions or later games on medium to high volumes; 1.500 grit, pin above ring finger and CG stacked, pls. see my profile for more details).

I got a SR300 some time ago, but its GB 10.7 coverstock proved to be much more aggressive than the "old" VA shell, it does not really replace it the way I want it to (even though it is a great ball).

As a personal guess, the Doom might fill the bill with a similar drilling with OOB surface?

Does anyone have experience with both balls? Any help, comments or reports are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Actually, the Doom is going to be stronger than what your Vicious Attack was. The Doom has a higher differential than the V.A., with a similar RG and a much stronger coverstock.

A better reccomendation for replacing your Vicious Attack would be a VIBE. This ball has a very similar RG and Diff rating to the V.A., with the weaker CT Reactive Coverstock that could be considered comparable to the cover on the Vicious Attack.

There you have it! I would go with the Vibe, my friend. However, I would probably hit the Vibe with a 1000-Grit Abralon Pad to give you a similar coverstock prep. Ball technology has come such a long way recently that the low-end equipment of today is quite similar to the high-end stuff of yesterday, lol! Hope this helps.

Dizzy.. I hope to help you on this one.....I dont have the Vicious Attack,  but I do Have the Doom.....I have a friend that has the Attack....Ive seen him throw it. The two are very similiar...only thing, the Raw Doom seems to get a little more length and maybe a bit more aggressive on the backend...If you decide on the Doom....you wont be disappointed....one of the best skid/flip balls on the market.
                         Earl

P.S. Also try the "Domination" by Storm....It is in comparison to both balls also...I heard it is a hell of a ball.....later

Thank you for the input. I guess that the Doom is OOB flippier than the VA - even though I am surprised how sharp my VA's breakpoint is for a sheen solid reactive ball. Maybe putting the pin a bit further away from the PAP should solve the problem, even though I like to play from deeper lines.

@BrooklySlop: do you mean the pruple or blue Vibe? The blue one is supposed to be stronger than the purple, and its core is quite similar to the VA's one. I also had this on the list, but I haven't heard muich about the blue Vibe's potential/performance - never seen one live in action so far?

Any other comments, anyone?

I dont have the attack either but here is the layout on my doom. Like earl said its the best skid/flip ball I've ever thrown. When it finds the dry, Mike Tyson doesnt have a right hook like this thing does.

On really dry back ends the Doom does hook a lot.  However the DOOM is actually the most controllable reactive pearl I have ever had.

I have heard from a Hammer staffer that the doom is no longer being made. If you do want it, get one soon
