Title: Input on new ball
Post by: mmcfarland300 on September 19, 2008, 09:36:59 AM
I am currently looking to fill any gaps in my arsenal.  Looking for input here is my active and inactive arsenal
Active
Columbia Noize - 2k dull - pin high and to the right of ring finger
Ebonite TNV - 4k w/powerhouse factory finish - Pin above bridge
Brunswick Danger Zone - 800 grit wet sand - pin above and right of ring finger

Laying Around
Columbia EPX T1 - Matte Finish - Pin high and right of ring finger
Roto Grip Epic Battle - 800 dull - Pin below bridge
Quantum Leap - 360 wet sand - Pin right of ring finger
Brunswick Fury - 500 wet sand - Pin below and right of ring finger

Looking at Hammer only in this instance leaning towards either Psycho or Emerald Vibe.  Need some input and drilling ideas would be good too.

Well, where would you like the next ball to fit in your arsenal? What type of reaction do you want to get?

I really only have one ball that goes long and that is the TNV.  Because I am speed dominant I tend to stay away from longer drillings and balls.  I want something that is solid on Medium to Dry lane conditions.  I am looking for something that isn't overly flippy as you can see the majority of my equipment is more arching.

Well out of the Vibe and Psycho, the Vibe is definitely a flippier ball. So I would go with the Psycho which gets a good amount of length and has a strong arc, not a pronounced flip.

I would try to help with layouts, but I'm typing this as I head out the door, so try to get some suggestions on layouts and later tonight I'll be back on and ill try to help more if you dont have it figured out yet

For medium/dry and not wanting a length layout I personally dont think either of these balls would be that great, the Pyscho is stronger than people give it credit for, its a strong continuous arcing ball, this ball continues its roll until it hits the back of the pin deck. Does it have to be Hammer? Most of hammers balls except the Pyscho are 40 foot then 45 degree left hand turn balls, so hard to say.

As a Hammer fan, I would say to look at the Storm Street Rods for what you need.

Yes this one does need to be Hammer and I am not against a long ball in this case either.

If it has to be a Hammer, I would just get the Pyscho then, drill it up skid flip and thats about as good as you can do from Hammer. Use to be big on Hammer but thats changed lately, they just dont have the variety of reactions I need or the smoothness out of a reaction that I want sometimes.
