It appears that I will be getting an Onyx Vibe as a Christmas gift. What I could really use is a ball for heavier oil. Now, I've heard stories of some folks taking a Blue Vibe, setting it up for oil, and getting good results. Can the same thing be done with an Onyx, and if so, how do you go about doing it? Any war stories about the Blue or the Onyx Vibes on oil?

I've heard quite a few people say this ball is stronger than advertised.

I'd drill it up 4x3 with an X-Hole in the thumb quadrant to help it roll up then knock the shine off with either a 1000 or 2000 pad with no shine. should work pretty good on thicker stuff I'd think.

If you throw a decent amount of ball it will work fine in those med/heavy patterns
the ball is very strong,
the onyx is the strongest of all of them I think ,
go with a slightly aggressive drilling on it and try it with the OOB finish on it and see what it does first
then maybe change the cover a bit if you need it to roll earlier

I agree. But, putting together an all-Vibe bag interests me and this would be the missing link. It sounds like if I start out with a good strong drill I can play from there. I know curiosity killed the cat, but hey, I'm not a cat.

I believe Mike Fagan and Kelly Kulick used the black onyx vibe on a shark pattern. The lanes were not new so I think there was some friction.

If it still doesn't work.......theres always 500 abralon.

Yeah Fagan used it on the shark
if you throw a lot of ball and with a strong drill pattern theres no reason that it cant work for you
I have a Mars drilled strong and use it on 42' heavy oil patterns,
works well for me,
I think the onyx vibe is stronger than the Mars is
and I do throw a lot of revs and around 18-19mph
