soak up-question
« on: April 18, 2007, 01:10:39 PM »
If no mercy and the black widow are made up of the same stuff does that mean that they would both soak up evenly instead of the no mercy soaking up faster then the black widow?

I am asking this question because i started looking into the no mercy and i c quite a few reviews that saw its a sponge or they have to clean it too often or somein like that.

Both require routine cleaning maintenance and both absorb oil about the same. Most high performance balls do, so its really nothing to worry about.

It has been my experience that the black widow absorbs more oil before it needs to be baked, because it absorbs through out the whole cover. For example if you put it in the oven, after 40 games, the whole ball will be soaked, like you just dropped the whole thing in water. On the other hand, the No Mercy seems to absorb mostly in the track area, and not spread out. I saw, that after about 40 games when I baked my NM, and my friends, only the area that was tracked up from my flare rings secreted oil, the rest of the ball was dry. Thats 2 balls from 2 different people doing the same thing... I don't know if we're the only one that has had this happen, but I would think that could be a logical answer. The NM seems like it needs to be baked more because the oil does not spread through out the whole ball but just the track area?
Just my observation...

Cleaning your bowling ball after bowling every time regardless of how often it was used is the best way to keep the ball in good shape and make it last. That and to wipe the bowling ball after every shot with a microfiber towl. If you take care of your equipment it will take care of you. I've found that the No Mercy and Black Widow, and for that matter, most bowling balls today, soak up about the same amount of oil with the exception that polished surfaces tend to soak up a little less. But since you still have to clean your bowling balls after every use it really doesn't matter. That is with the exception of your spare ball. That you might not want to clean very often as the less break, the better.
