Title: New Hammer Onyx Vibe oh my!
Post by: LuckyLefty on June 08, 2019, 11:04:45 AM
So I have the original Hammer Onyx Vibe with Hammer CT Reactive Plus a pretty strong Solid cover with Mica and dullish.

Now I have fallen in to ownership of the new Hammer Onyx Vibe (drilled for a righty).  With Pin over mid and CG kicked out to the righty side!  I would estimate 5 7/8 pin to pap and nearly 7 cg to pap!

With it's cleaner looking CT Reactive max (no Mica lots of push), this ball is great rival to my killer Scout Reactive Solid that I have surprised so many scratch bowlers with over the last two years!  Earlier rolling with some less backend.

I am thinking of moving my CG to stacked under my middle finger for this extreme Wet/Dry(only on the lefty side) to convert my almost endless pocket hits with it up the 9 board to strikes).  This means moving the cg from quite negative to just slighlty negative or adding a little more pin strength(not much).

Sometimes my only leave with it from the left side are a  couple of 10 pins a game due to the very soft speed I throw to make it hook!

A better kinder ball than the first Onyx Vie I think!  Your thoughts?

Sincerely,

Luckylefty

Sincerely.

With the oils of today being much slicker, the Vibes are all a touch smoother downlane than they were 12-13 years ago. I have a 16lb Cherry Vibe (new version) that I really liked and for me it was identical to the original. Long and a little sparky off the spot. I just rarely saw enough of a breakdown on a condition to use it.

Moving the cg would be a waste of time. The surface change after removing the plug will have a bigger impact.

Needs the same push(attempt at same highly polished surface) and about 2 more inches of recovery as I must never add any swing or it won't recover with this very weak pin!

I have had multiple Vibes over the years.
have the newer blue and black.
The blue is awesome when there is some friction
The black is a good foot sooner and 3-4 more than the blue, a bit to responsive to friction for me.

Now I have the new Orange Vibe and its the best of them all so far with limited use
I can actually use it as a medium to medium weaker piece, 1st out of the bag in the summer league.
its above the blue and a slower response to friction which I tend to like better
Probably right in between the blue and black for length, but more user friendly from what Im seeing
