New Taboo= 2nd in Doubles Tournament
« on: December 20, 2010, 03:32:48 AM »
Well.. I can say I am more then happy with the ball already.. I had only had the ball for one day, and I decided to enter into a doubles tournament. The night before I had decided to practice with some other equipment, and I got on a pair of lanes that no matter what I did I couldnt get the ball to move much. I thought it was just me being tired as I had around 30 games bowled and I have a shoulder that is near shot.. so totaled together I figured that was what the issue was. It turned out the owner (who also bowled in the tournament), had put out the same long oil sport shot to practice on, that he was going to put out for the tournament. After throwing the first practice shot, and tropical head doing the wobble dance in the oil.. I immediately knew it was time to see if the taboo was for real or not. My taboo is drilled pin under ring, no weight hole... markings stacked. The pitch is all wrong in the fingers, but I didnt have time to plug it, so I put in lift grips to compensate partially until I can plug the fingers (I need to stop experimenting haha). Well after 4 games and being +170 as a team, we were top seed going into the step ladder finals. I noticed everyone that had or thought they had revs struggled for whatever reason, while I cruised averaging 215 with the taboo. Going into the finals match, I began to struggle as I felt just physically/mentally out of it. I began to dump balls right of target (dropping my shoulder), and release the ball flat. We were down 70 pins going into the 7th frame. I decided to move in.. decrease speed, and increase axis tilt.. i found the pocket and took it off the sheet. All of a sudden, we are nearly knotted up with my partner needing all 3 for the victory. He was using a mission 2.0.. playing a tad right of where I am playing.. he nailed the first shot.. all 10.. he nailed the second shot..probably his best shot of the tournament.. solid 10 pin.. spare.. we loose by a mark.. I can say had I pulled my head out my arse earlier instead of forcing the ball in the pocket and ringing 10 pins..mixed with the other team carrying bull.. the outcome may have been a bit different... but hey.. for a christmas present from the wife.. I can honestly say I am 100 percent happy with the new taboo! It is not the most aggressive ball I have ever thrown with this layout, but it sure as hell can handle the soup.. and I knew where every shot was going when I released it.. I cant say that for a lot of balls on the market! It responds very well to speed/release changes.. the taboo may be hammers mission.. in that it is selling very well and deserves every bit of the credit it gets!
