New Urethane Hammers!!!!
« on: October 22, 2021, 11:12:30 AM »
So I just watched a video from Bowlers Rant showing 3 new urethanes coming out.  There is a new Black Solid, Purple Solid, and a Red Pearl.  There were not too many details as of yet but Beans noticed them on the USBC Approved Balls List.  I am most interested in seeing how the Red compares to the Purple.

I saw this video as well. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on these.

Rumor has it (read: more comments in that video) that they are discontinuing Purple Pearl Urethane again - and for good - because of hardness standards again. I'm taking that with a huge grain of salt, because I don't believe Brunswick would run into that problem again after EBI did, unless there is some sort of flaw in the chemical makeup of that urethane formula for it to fail again. Apparently, Red Pearl is supposed to replace that.

I also noticed on the Approved list from August 2021 that there were two more BW Urethanes that made the list: BW Urethane Black and BW Urethane Purple. If these 3 non-Widow Urethanes are coming out, it's more than likely that the BW Urethanes will be overseas only.

Apologies for sounding like a broken record (I probably asked this a dozen times), but when EBI bought Hammer, did they just by the name only, or all of the tech that went along with it? I ask, because I wonder if that would include the IP, including the formulas for the urethanes that Faball made, because wouldn't Brunswick own that now as well?

I hope the red is really coming. My dad had a red for a long time and I wouldn't mind having one myself now

Good thing is since there are already pictures of it and it's on the list, they are indeed coming. And now that I think about it, those 3 are going to be catalog balls, or quite possibly a US OEM run of those balls. I say this because seeing that since we have the BW Ghost Pearl coming out next month, there's no way that Hammer/Brunswick will follow that up with 2 more BW releases: urethane or otherwise. So more likely than not we will see those 3 urethane Hammers within the next 4 months.

Just curious.

When in the heck would you have need for a urethane pearl piece of any kind?

It seems to me there'd have to be little to no oil on the lane to make it work!

Thoughts??

There are also plenty of short sport patterns out there

Not a good option for light oil. Yet most bowlers buy it with that in mind and end up trying to throw it 4th or 5th arrow on their league condition etc and swing the lane with it. Fun to watch for 2-8-10s, buckets or missing the headpin

My thought is that there is a matchup for everybody and every bowling ball.  Most of us know that on league conditions; there is "little to no oil" outside first arrow.  So there are some people with higher rev rates that could choose to play closer to the gutter.  Secondly; not all lane surfaces are the same.  Some do have a higher friction surface where even lower end reactives would appear to be pretty skid flip.  A pearl urethane would work well in places like this.  The center I bowl league at, on the fresh, I am using a Beast starting around 15-17 at the arrows with unlimited bounce outside first arrow.  The house shot plays like a 38 foot pattern with heavy load of oil the first 20 feet.  So I actually see some carry down before the lanes start to break down.  If I wanted to, I could take a pearl urethane and play 7-8 at the arrows and play the friction.  But, it is not my style and I am not out to screw my teammates over that need that friction over the course of all 3 games.  But whatever ball you see on the pro shop walls; there is always a time and place for them.

I’m rev dominant, have 14-15mph speed, and like to keep the shot in front of me. Pearl urethane will, many times, allow me to do that while playing my “comfort” area out around the 8-10 boards.

I’ve always been different though. I was still throwing plastic and rubber up until the mid 1990’s. With resin, they finally put enough oil out for me to use urethane 🤓.

Anyway, my original Red Pearl Hammer is getting a little long in the tooth, and I really like red bowling balls 😳

If they're coming, would most likely be January or February release.

Rep I know mentioned last week that the Ghost and Heat are the last 2021 releases from the Brunswick brands

And this makes absolute sense. Having the Obsession Tour Pearl, BW Ghost Pearl, and 3 Urethanes all come out within a 3 month period is really overkill for Hammer, and would cannibalize their target base. Splitting that up to come out by February would be a much better marketing strategy, especially since something will have to give (read: clearing out inventory) for Black Friday/Christmas shopping.
