Was the Blue/Silver Taboo garbage?
« on: June 14, 2015, 02:41:32 PM »
I have a electric blue and silver taboo (15 lbs) that I tried to sell on facebook and ebay for some cash, but I apparently can't even move this ball at $130 shipped, a price that would already leave me with a loss (especially after ebay and paypal fees). Meanwhile, I see black and purple taboos, even the taboo spares sell for nearly $200 (more in some cases).

Was this taboo so much worse than the others?  ???

It wasn't "garbage"; it just wasn't super-popular.

Surprised you're "stucK" with such a loss. I bought the double Taboo (the Blue/Silver + the Taboo Spare) for the price of the Taboo. I just wanted the spare ball which I got for free and sold the regular ball to a friend/acquaintance here. So I got the spare ball for about $50, less than the internet price of $85, at the time. My friend got the B/S Taboo for a song; I think I charged him $85 or something like that.

Right now this is a tough market for any ball sale by a private person. People only want the most popular current or past balls. Since this ball was anything but popular, I think you're going to have set your sights on about $100 shipped, unless you get lucky. Be patient.

I don't think anyone won with it on TV...I'm not sure...  I know a guy who has never resurfaced it ever, still scores like crazy with it.

A tough market it is indeed. People usually want the latest stuff, especially Storm and Roto Grip.

May just drill the ball myself and sell other stuff for cash instead.

I wish I carried better with that core...I had all the widows and always left 7pins...otherwise I would bought it. $130 is a fair price!

Definitely wasnt garbage.  The issue I believe is how many TV shows had the B/S been on.  Not nearly as many as the original Taboo.  Even the Purple Taboo didnt sell as much as the original even though I saw more Purples around my area than the B/S.  A lot of people base ball sales on what makes TV shows.  Since Storm is dominating shows; Storm's sales have increased dramatically.  Brunswick is getting there.  But EBI has struggled the past few years on TV shows and consequently so has their sales.  When I go bowl league; I see no Honors, Code of Honors, Salutes, anything Hammer outside the Legends and so on.  I believe it is the reason why you cant give that thing away.

As the others have mentioned, it was a good ball except it wasn't as popular.  I only know of 1 person that was using the blue/silver yet saw more of the original and purple.  Storm/Roto Grip dominates around here, Brunswick is getting there.  Motiv has become more popular as of late.  They've been having staffers and free agents win titles and have been featured on a good amount of shows the past 2-3 years.
