No Mercy
« on: December 19, 2006, 05:43:36 AM »
My no mercy arrived last night.  I pulled it out of the box and to my surprise, the cg was actually aligned to the right of the HART (must have been my lucky day!).  I took it into the shop this morning and weighed it out and the cg was within 1/8" of the actual marking, so I was set!

I drilled it up with the pin 4.5" from my PAP, 4" above my midline (A little over an inch above my fingers).  Due to the alignment, I was able to get the HART far enough left to end up between my first and second lines of flare.  I left the surface of the ball in box condition (4000 grit).

I took it out to "test" it on day old left over house shot oil.  AMF HPL synthetics.  There seemed to be quite a bit of carry down on the backends.  My scorchin inferno would check up early if played straight up the boards and just skate and not recover on the backend if I bumped in to play a little swing shot.  I was able to throw the No Mercy ANYWHERE between 13 at the arrows and 5 at the breakpoint to 20 at the arrows and 13 at the breakpoint.  It was insane.  On the 13-5 line the ball flew through the heads, made revved up at the break point (I'm not talking about just getting into a roll, but really seemed to increase in revs!) and a strong finish through the pins.  When in deeper, the ball revved really strong in the midlane and kind of settled flush in the pocket.  It was just tossing pins everywhere.  So far this ball is leaps and bounds ahead of my scorchin, which I had grown quite fond of over the past several weeks.  This is one of those rare balls (sort of like when the original danger zones were introduced) that you just know you are going to throw a big set while using it.

So far, this ball is much better than I had expected.  I am going to get a number of games on it over the holidays (have a few tournaments lined up) and will give a full review at the beginning of the new year.

You lucky SOB!  My pro shop guy has one ordered for me with the CG kicked right.  I told him I don't want another one unless it has the CG kicked right.  He said I will do my best to find one.  I will know tomorrow if one was located.

This ball is awesome.  I really like the roll it has.  I just haven't been able to use it at league because it needs a good amount of oil.  I'm throwing some polish on it tonight to see if I can make it more useable.

I ordered mine for BB.com and requested pin out distance and that the pin/cg/hart were lined up OR the cg was right of the pin/HART.  I received the exact specs I wanted AND the pin/cg/HART alignment (not sure if that was coincidence or not)..  anyway, I got the specs I requested at an unbeatable price.

I think that I'm going to hang out at the lanes tomorrow night to see if anyone needs a sub.. I want to throw it on a fresh shot... I can only image the reaction would be as good, if not better, than on the carry-down slop I threw on this afternoon.

I just talked with my driller.  He found me a NM with the CG off set to the right about an inch.  This is awesome.  Now I will be able to kick the HART far left of the thumb.

My first NM has the pin above the bridge and HART 3/4" left of thumb.

This NM #2 may get the same pin location but the HART would be further left.  This way I can have one polished and the other in Box surface.  I will see.  I may kick the pin 1" closer to my pap which would make it 4.5" from pap.

I will let you guys know what I decide.

Picked my NM up yesterday and went out and seen what it could do. I shot a warm up game to get loose then brought it out. OMG I was amazed at the backend this thing has. I struck on the first 10 shots with it and had 288 first game out of the box moved around a little the next 2 games to see where I could play and how much room I had and ended up with 744 . Not bad for first time out, cant wait to see what it will do on a fresh shot with a little more oil.

Alright.  I managed to catch some sort of inner ear infection a couple days ago, so I lost the small amount of balance that I actually had.  I was feeling better this morning, so got out again to throw my NM.  For me, the ball seems to create area that just isn't there with my scorchin inferno.  Its just a fun ball to throw.  Here is a picture of the layout I used.  Typically, most stuff I have drilled had the MB (or in this case the HART) below the thumb hole somewhere...  but by using a "high" pin, it pulled the HART up above my thumb.  I'm not sure what influence (if any) it has on reaction, but the ball still seems to roll really well...

well after griping and complaining about my nm i finally had it redrilled. Apparently what had happened was ,my pap had changed due to my change in style so the original drilling had me at about 2.5 inches from pap. Unfortunately for me i got one of the misaligned balls so i could only get it to 4 inches with the pin slighty above the ring finger bout a half inch. I took it to the lanes last night to a house that puts out enough oil early to last all day. I dont know what pattern it was but my best lone was standing 20  and hitting 15 at the arrows 10 to 7 at the break. Unfortunately for me again i was still quite unimpressed with the nm.
It is still as speed sensitive as it was .still wouldnt carry the corners and genearally just sucked. I was also using a passion polished with storm no.1 pin above bridge center puts it at about 5 inches from pap, epic battle 3and 3/8 x3and 3/4,phenom unleashed same as passion only under bridge, and i had yo watch my speed with all of them . the thing that was different was that i could find a shot with every ball i used except the nm. Over under like crazy with it.
Today i went to a different house and the shot was still ok since it was early . Ths 38ft. with dry back ends. Same result as last night ,over under. Leave a 10 pin ,move right and thru the nose. Now I am getting pissed ,everything else i am using is getting to the hole nicely with good carry the battle os working like clock work ,my passion makes me look like i know what i am doing awesome backend and its polished, Ok ok I know what u r thinking mnot enough oil,but why would my battle work.
So since i am in the bowling alley i take it to the proshop and ask him to take it to 2000 he says he would have to resurface it because of rings from sanding it . I told hom not to .Instead i hit it with some ebonite energizer and a green scratch pad and it was like a different ball. That woke it up immediately.
I only shot 238,but i never missed the pocket. I was high, it carried. Got it wide it came back. If i thru it to slow it jumped ,but if i was fast it still came back nicely. So I guess all i needed was a little more scuff and it was off to the 1 3. I bowl league tonight ,but since it was flooded last week it will be the sahara tonight ,but if not i will get to see if that scuff was just what the doctor ordered.

Firstly, as its 02:08 here int he UK, merry Christmas y'all

Now.. I have just been looking on the Hammer site at the No mercy and all looks good, until I take a look at the drilling charts... since when has putting the MB in the Track made the ball stronger??  Is this something special with this ball??

i realise it says not to use standard MB layouts for this ball, but why??  Does the HART location indicate an area a couple of inches away from the MB??  I really would love to get some technical background on this one...

Totally baffled...

Ryan, that's because the marker they use isn't the "real" MB.  It's actually some designated distance away from the real one at a different angle (I think it's about 6 3/4" from the real MB, and forms a right triangle between the pin, hart and real MB, but don't quote me).  Hammer did this mainly because A) proving to the USBC they could get around the proposed "cg within an inch of grip center" rule that didn't pass and B) some drillers probably kept drilling MB balls with the MB on the left side of the thumb because it'd be the typical label drill and they didn't know about MB's.  So when the hart is left of thumb the real MB is actually in a "normal" spot.  At least, that's my feeble understanding.  I'm just typing this until someone who knows what they are talking about can come in and correct me.

Yeh, This s what I was thinking when I said is it actually an area a few inches from the MB, as in this position the MB would still be in the strong position...

What I don't get is, why?  Why not still show the MB location?  Its not like all other manufacturers are going to follow suit, and I cant imagine many drillers will welcome this, so surely this will only complicate things?

Anyway, im sure glad I read the Hammer site before someone had me drill them one of these balls!
