Plague is Sick!!!
« on: May 21, 2010, 12:32:28 PM »
Today at USBC Nationals in Reno, Bill Monce, Hammer's Midwest District Sales Manager, had 783 in team event with the Plague!  Ball was drilled with a 5 1/2" pin, and a mass bias kicked just right of the thumb hole.  Pin ended up just left of the centerline above the fingers.  No extra hole.  Out of the box at our 500/1000/2000 grit 3-stage finish.  Phenomenal score for USBC Team event!  This ball is sick!

I think it's important to remember that all Sales Managers as well as staff players receive new releases PRIOR to the official date they are avb. to the public.  The Midnight Vibe was used in Regionals prior to it's sell date, and I'm sure the Jigsaw Trap and Plague will be used in PBA regionals this weekend by staffers and such.  It provides the company an opportunity to generate some interest in it prior to shops having the ball in their shops.

Bill is also a very talented player.  The ball didn't make the score.........he crossed with 10 people that broke down the lanes very well and created a ton of room that allowed both teams to get into the top 20.

I bowled the TNBA National Tournament yesterday (5/24) and one of the Hammer Reps subbed for our team. He was using the Plague and I was not impressed to say the least. He used it maybe two or three frames during the three games. He had several yet to be released balls, but the only one I found impressive was a Track 505T. That ball looked great on the lane.

You don't think that has anything to do with the Plague being WAY stronger than the 505T, do you? If he looked great using a 505T then it's obvious that the Plague simply didn't match the lane conditions, because a 505T I'd imagine is pretty close to an Onyx Vibe or something like that in strength while the Plague seems to be stronger than the Widows.

At the time he brought out the 505T, of course. But that was the third game of a 5 man team event. We had pretty much removed the oil by that time. At the start of the set, everyone was using the aggressive equipment. One Elite Red Alien, one Mutant Cell, one original Cell, a couple of Missions(which didn't match up either), a Virtural Gravity, a Motiv TR2 etc. After a couple of tosses, his Plague just didn't seem to have it. Or, it could be that it needed way more oil than we had. But that didn't seem to effect everyone else.

In the third game, most had shelled down to something less aggressive and the 505T looked really good. I was using a Cell Pearl and the look was somewhat similar as far as handling the conditions.

As I stated on the Hammer Booth Facebook. Jeff should allow them to sell the balls at Nationals or move the release date up (may not be possible due to manufacturing?) so they could be purchased for Nationals.

Jugger? If you received a ball before world wide introduction, would you test it?
I asked this earlier.

Well heck YEAH I would. But, I wouln''t use it in a tournament unless I had the approval to. Sorry I missed where you asked me this or I would have gladly answered it earlier

LOOK, you guys are missing the entire point of this question. It isn''t about Bill Monce, it isn''t about his skill, and truthfully, it isn''t about Hammer or any of their balls specifically, it just happened to be here because this ball was the one Jeff mentioned.

IT IS ABOUT ANY BOWLING BALL MADE BY ANY MANUFACTURER BEING USED IN ANY OPEN FORMAT TOURNAMENT.

It isn''t about PBA regionals, or any other "closed" format tournament where unique technology is available to the participants.

So the tournament lasts approximately 130-140 days. Started in February.

For your argument to be valid (as I read into it), a new release could not be used in the tournament once the first ball is rolled for score (back on February 20). Everyone who bowled that first week, first month, so on, didn't have access to the equipment that has been released since.

I find it hard to believe that someone is sitting at home right now, reading this thread and thinking, "If only I had the (insert brand and ball) in my hands when I bowled the Open. Not having that cost me a shot at an eagle. That's not fair."

BTW, Brett Wolfe finished up a 2,245 all-events total today using a Blue Hammer.

get over it. it is what it is. doesn't make a difference who used what ball. it is usbc approved and it can be used. the end.

Damn, you guys are busting Jugger's balls awfully hard over a question that has came to my mind before as well.  I didn't take his question to be as harsh as you all seem to think it was.  I think it is a legitimate question.  After hearing the reply about how long the tournament was and limiting balls to only those available at the start of the tournament (so all had access to them), I don't see it as a problem.  But, I did have the same exact thoughts when I heard this story (and others like it in the past).

Yes he did, but I didn't see anybody from Hammer come here and pimp that product

He also claimed his Masters title with a Blue Hammer, but that ball has since been retired. His equipment choice, coupled with being at the Stadium, gives Wolfe a throwback feel.

"I love that ball, and everyone knows that I love to throw it," Wolfe said. "Today's was a later model of the Blue Hammer from the Masters, but they're both Blue Hammers. It's kind of hard not to have the retro vibe when you are throwing 15-year-old equipment."

That's one of the perks for having his position with Hammer! Plus, what better way to get the ball exposed? This happens all the time in leagues and tournament all over the country, staffers and some pro shop get a ball before it's released to the general public. That's how they get the ball seen in action before you can buy it! Is it fair? I think so because a lot of these people work hard for their company and staff position and it should be worth something! Just my $.02, Bruce
