No its not, unless you put an awful lot of hand in the ball.. I polished mine and hated it..Ypu can try it and always dull it back if you don't like it..

I have had 2 big blues drilled differently and I sold them both, just not the ball for me..

Yeah, but one of the big blues he sold went to me --- It IS the ball for me ---Thanks, JIM.....On a more serious note, I had another BIG BLUE that had a couple of drillings in it.. first I tried it w/box finish, then I polished it as an experiment--- I went back to the box finish --- I'm not saying that you can't polish a big blue --- saw a post awhile back where a guy was talking about seeing a guy throw a polished BB with a lot of success -- just wasn't what I was looking for in terms of ball reaction.  I also have a BBP -- totally different reaction than the BB shined up.

smash9, glad you like it.. Some balls are just not for everyone I guess.. I really wanted the big blue to work for me, just never really found a place on the lane where I could get the ball to carry consistantly.. That post awhile back about the guy using a polished big blue with success said that the guy had tons of hand in the ball, thats no doubt why it worked for him.. Guys like that can hook a white dot 15-20 boards!! LOL..

I love my big blue, it’s not the biggest hooking premium ball, but I love how
Hard it hits with my slower ball speeds. But my friend hates it and he was just
Going to try polishing it before he sells it to see if he will like it more.

jkiser01, what did the ball do that made you hate it.

Polishing a solid will get you close, but never the same as a pearl.  Pearls have an additive (commonly mica) that will skate through the oil and react to the dry more than a solid.

fishnic,

I didn't hate it, just didn't do what I wanted it to do.. hook consistantly. I alos try alot of different balls and if one doesn't work for me, I sell it pretty quick. Smash9 can you tell the condition of the 2nd big blue he bought from me, it was like new..

I've got mine sanded with an abrolon pab at 1000 grit and love it.  At about 30 - 35 feet, it makes a hard arc to the pocket, just like the old blue Hammer did 17-20 years ago.  I really like the smooth arc as it is forgiving on a high hit, meaning it does not leave many big through the nose splits.  Hits hard enough to carry the 4 pins!!

toon,

I have mine sanded at 1000 too, i did not think it would
make that much difference but it actully did, it hooked
a little later and it hit harder.

I just polished my Big Blue recently with Powerhouse Factory Finish.   I first sanded it to 2000 with an abralon pad and then polished it, hitting all 4 sides.

This ball is a truck, but is nothing like my 2 BBP's.

they have completely different coverstocks. The big blue pearl is NOT a pearlized version of that same coverstock.

I didn't know that.  Thanks for the clarification.  My earlier post still stands for the difference between a solid and an otherwise identical pearl. How do you know the covers are different?  I don't see much information on Hammer's site.  The pearl has ER-20, but nothing is listed for the solid.
