I could swear I heard/read somewhere that Brunswick was planning on remaking the Purple Hammer Urethane, but I'm definitely not seeing anything relating to that out here now. Was/is that supposed to happen at some point, or was I just dreaming?
-
They teased a lot of photos of it, but nothing hit the approved list yet, nor have the staffers received anything official on it as of last week.
Wonder if it's done and they are just sitting on them for a better release timing, right now really isn't ideal for new ball release timing with winter leagues wrapping up, and summer near.
-
Lot if staffers throwing purples on tv. I would think that would hype the market anytime.

They have been throwing the same ones for a few years now.
-
I was hoping that if anything, they would release the Black Widow Purple Pearl Urethane here. From what I've seen of it thrown both here and overseas, that ball is getting the best of both worlds: Purple Hammer performance, and adjustability, and Widow core.
That was one of the last Hopkinsville pours, and I don't know if they have the formula for Hammer's urethane cover, let alone pearl urethane cover down in Reynosa yet..

The formula was part of the buyout, the biggest reason it’s taken so long to get this release out is having to make minor adjustments for equipment and environmental factors.

Interesting. That tells us that it is possible. It would be worth trolling the Approved ball list over the next few months to see what they may do, because lately, especially on tour, there has been A LOT of urethane thrown. And with there only being two 3 options from Hammer, with all of them being discontinued, there definitely would be the demand for them.

Now, I will say that before anyone jumps the gun on it, there is a Black Widow Purple that is on the Ball Approved list, but it is a solid reactive with compound. It's an overseas ball, that came out as a 3-ball combo: Black Widow Purple, Black Widow Red, and Black Widow Black. All of them are already out overseas.
Chris Beans just did a short spec review of the Purple:
I'm a pass on that ball, and am waiting to see if they'll pull off a urethane release.

Purple Hammer returns July 1st

Yep, just saw it online. Now, the question is whether or not the new ones will live up to what the old ones were like. You already know that some people are going to automatically claim that the older ones are better no matter what the newer ones do. lol
-
This thing is going to be a HUGE seller. I know people that are already talking about getting one just because of the hype. It's crazy.
-
I remember when before the Purple was released, I threw the pitch series and everyone complained its ruining the shot, ruining it for everyone else, blah blah blah. Now, if you have one of these, nobody says a word even though its the same coverstock. Reason being, everyone has one.

Hahaha...not around here. Bowlers see urethane on the return and it is instant, vocal complaining about ruining the shot, destroying the pattern, etc. Usually starts with someone looking at the return and declaring "Hey! Someone is throwing urethane!!" That is followed with "WHAT?!?!?! WHY?!??! WHO???? My night is ruined!!!! Thanks a lot!"

I guess they realized their mistake when the Motiv Purple Tank came out. #motivnation

Sounds like a good night to be in the high game pot. :-)

No. This has been in the works since Brunswick bought EBI
I will admit the purple ball jab Motiv put up on social media sites the other day was funny
-
Yep. I received an email about it and this is under "new releases" on bowlingball.com.

From what I have heard, they are a touch cleaner but that could honestly come down to Siaair vs abralon.

They are already going to say that because Hopkinsville versus Reynosa.

Just think of all the people trying to sell the discontinued for $500 in the past, now you can buy one for $135.
-
Yes, but this current soon to be release of batches, will be more Brunswick made, as opposed to Ebonite, so I expect this batch, will not be the same as the previous versions, and not in a good way, as the previous releases, imo.
If it were me, I would still look to purchase the older, proven ones even paying a pretty penny for it (Its proven).

Part of the reason why I'm seriously contemplating paying the premium for that Black Widow Purple Pearl Urethane that just showed up on Ebay.

Brandl, you got my vote; Wont find many, I say go for it.

From my limited understanding, the purple urethane coverstock may be too aggressive for black widow core. But whatever, if someone wants to spend $500 on some urethane bowling ball, I guess it's good for them that they have $500 for a bowling ball. I'd put a weak layout on in.
I'm sure people will debate differences btwn Ebonite and Brunswick versions, but bowling balls are not made of wood, nor art. It's a plastic mixed together with chemical additives, and if you know the formula, then why can't one company duplicate the other?
For various reasons I dropped weight, so now that they are bringing it out in the ball weight I use, I'll probably by it, as there are not many good urethane balls under 14 lbs, and would like a pearl urethane the compliment my Badger Infused.
