I was just on Storm's website and saw this video. It's labled "Storm vs. the competition" It showed Randy throwing the T-Road Pearl vs the Black Widow Pearl. Both had similar layouts. It wasn't a really good comparison video because it didn't tell you what the oil pattern was, or show Randy throw it from different lines. It looked like one shot that was replayed over and over again. I'm not downplaying the T-Road Pearl because I've seen this in person and it is impressive. I have the Black Widow Pearl, and it's one of the strongest pearls I've ever thrown.
Take a look at the video and judge for yourself

Try this (http://"http://www.stormbowling.com/company/video.asp?towid_display=97&towdate_display=10%2F21%2F2007&towdesc_display=Storm+vs%2E+The+Competition"). Much better for those of us who don't have 160:9 displays.

they did this with the shift as well, vs. angular one.

I think it would hold more validity if a robot threw both balls or a CATS type system was used.
-
What a crock....he kinda drives me nuts. I must say.
-
I'm not going to get into my opinion of the videos that Randy does...
...but what I saw in the video is pretty much what I've seen when comparing both balls to one another (yes I have both).

Certainly RPedersen is NOT one of my favorites buddies, and (maybe) we have to agree in two things:
1.- The guy is trying to make a living (he works for Storm) he has to say
what Storms says.
2.- Kinda obviously ... it's a Storm ad. so, 99.99% a "x" company ad. will say their product is the "best".
What surprises me is... I haven't seen this kind of ads before, at least not coming directly from a Ball company.
I don't have any of those balls, I liked how the TR looks on the lane (other local players) I will open the BWP, expecting at least the same comparing with the TR...
Greetings..

Maybe Storm is trying to make videos so blatantly biased and goofy that people are going to spread them around the Internet, get people talking about them and visiting Storm's website, where they might decide to poke around and they'll be thinking about the Storm brand. Unusual, but possibly so-bad-it's-good, marketing?
-
could someone summarize the point they were trying to make as far as the differences??
Appreciate it...

T-Road pearl offers the same reaction for less money would be my guess.

Another thought. What are the two things the average bowler (someone who doesn't know a lot about bowling balls) looks for in a ball? Hook in a box and the magic ability to carry the 10 pin. That's the two things the video tries to show Storm's equipment has versus the "competition." And for a lower price. Maybe that was the point of the video -- to appeal to the guy who doesn't have a clue about the finer points of bowling and just wants something to knock out the 10 pin?
-
Like you guys, I'm not speaking poorly of storm or Randy Peterson for that matter...but I was almost offended by that video. How ignorant it was on a ton of the finer points, and so dis-respectful to a brand like Hammer.
To take a mid-price reactive pearl, and compare it to a high-performance, high hooking (and yes, higher priced) reactive pearl on the same line is ludacris. The reason that 10 probably didn't carry is becuase the ball hooks too much to be played on that line...on that ONE SHOT, btw. Move a little further inside and get the BWP out a little...smashes the pocket all day, I'd like to see the TR recover from where the BWP can.
And another thing, did you see how sloppy that last shot he threw with the TR was? EEW.
Maybe this does sound like I'm speaking negatively about Storm, but wow, I can't believe they would put out a video where the obviously disrespect a very honorable ball company. Maybe they're trying to get the entire company's representation to be a little more like their star child PDW? Jerk.
Thanks for letting me vent, and hopefully I didn't offend anyone here.

Hey, you didn't offend me, and I love Storm. I likewise was almost offended by the video, but it was so over the top (the music cracks me up) and simplistic I can't help but laugh at it in a way. And at least Randy never outright says the TRP is "better" than the BWP -- he just says it hooks a hair more on the backend for him. If he outright said "better," I'm sure there'd be even more backlash.
-
How can you see if Randy is throwing both balls the same way? I remember Chris Barnes in the EPX video getting all over the side of the ball to create some backend ball motion. Storm must be desperate to sell balls because I don't think Brunswick, Ebonite, Hammer or C300 have ever compared their balls with other brands and shown in on the web.
-
I dont understand why everybody is getting so upset over this video. There is no need to know what oil pattern it was and no need to throw it from different lines. The two balls were drilled the same and thrown on the same line. and we can see how the two differ in reaction and continuation. I better to compare balls on similar lines and shots than to have them sprayed all over the place. I know Randy is no robot, but he is not a rookie with a fluffer release either. And he has done better on tour than most of the people on this board. I am a Hammer fan myself and I dont nessasarily agree with the more backend at a cheaper price comment. But the TR did finish through the deck better than the BW. At least on that shot.

I don't know if the comment no comparison ever done.
I swear Ebonite did some sweet stuff when Angular One came out comparing ....Angular one with a whole bunch of other companies stuff.
Some sort of machine....or was it....P Allen?
I forget!
It WAS informative!
