The number 2000 grit kind of stuck in my head. BowlingBallVault seems to agree.
I'd have to check back issues of BTM and BJI to further validate that info.

Since Hammer is yet another manufacturer that does not keep core specs and surface ffinish specs on their own web site, we have to rely on other sources.

Btm has the Black Widow at 4000 Abralon  07/2006 issue
And the Black Widow Pearl at 4000 Abralon Polished with Powerhouse Factory Finish 06/2007 issue

Heres from the Hammer site
BLACK WIDOW   Violent Reactive   4000 Grit Abralon Sanded   Black/Red

It's 4000 as HammerTech stated. (Hint: I believe he works for Hammer)

To answer your other question, if I remember correctly, it was brought up from 500 to 4000, i.e. 500 then 1000 then 2000 then 4000.

However, that being said, I found mine to work best at 2000.  Put it at what will work best for you.

That is correct about the finishing process. At the time we did 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 in the factory
