When do you use your Widow?
« on: August 17, 2006, 07:41:16 PM »
Hello all,

In my time thinking about whether or not I should get a Widow, I'm still confused as to what condition this ball is suited for.  So when do you guys use your widow?  Details would be great (i.e. cover prep, layout, lane condition, etc)

I tried my BW out last night on my home house and the reaction was prety good.it was our typical wore down medium house shot with spotty backends.most of my stuff checks up early in the mids than flattens out in the back with alot of seven or ten pin leaves.my BW was picked up used but fits good,I resurfaced it back to factory specs.pin is just to the right of ring and a little higher to the ring finger,c.g. almost in the center with the M.B. about 11/2" right of thumb.standing around 25 I would target 15 out to ten to 5 and the ball would strike at will.the reaction was a clean skid to about 30 ft. mark than wind up really hard and have a type of flip arc roll.I noticed that it kept the pins low, light pocket hits sent everything sweeping the deck and flush hits were crushers.out of 6 games I only remember 1 ringing ten.this ball worked best with a firm speed and a soft hand, don't need to try and crank it.

I'm not bad,I just bowl that way.

I agree with sixpack. Firm speed with soft hand works best in the house I bowl at. medium oil with some carrydown. Fresh shot in the house has very strong backends and outside. The Black Widow crushes the pins.

Ahh...anyone polish one?  I read that this ball is soo versatile and can cover pretty much the spectrum of med/heavy>med>carrydown.

To simplify....the Black Widow works on most conditions except the extremes of really dry or heavy oil. Almost anywhere in between it will work well. You just have to vary your speed and perhaps your hand position. My problem is that I have a relatively slow speed which limits the conditions I can use it on to medium to heavy/medium.

I think the 4000 g. abralon fits this core cover to a T.a little dry in the heads and the ball will still clear.I think if you polish it up you will lose the backend reaction on carrydown.something I'm not willing to do.the BW is cleaner down the lane than my saw blade and carries just as well.

has anyone compared the widow to the radical?  Would it be logical to have both in the same arsenal seeing as how they're supposed to do the same thing (go long snap hard) in the same condition?
