Well in the near future (1-2 months) I plan on buying of these balls. Both IIRC come at 4000 grit no polish from the factory and are Heavy-Medium oil balls. Now I want the ball I purchase (I'm looking hammer only) to go above my factory polished Doom that is drilled 4 1/8 by 3 7/8 (pin and cg to pap).

Now from what I take it is the Black Widow offers more of a Backend Reaction and the Pain is a more even ball starting up earlier by the nature of the ball. Now I would prefer the more backend but on slicker patterns a more even ball may suit me better.

Now for those who have bowled multiple games with these balls what do they bring to the table for you, condition usage and reaction type wise.

I have not used either ball. However, it comes down to common sense more than anything. It sounds like you are looking for something for "slicker" patterns. The Black Widow is going to be the best choice simply because it is the stronger ball. You can always adjust the breakpoint by surface changes. You have a high track, so something in a drilling where you put pin the slightly above and slightly right of the ring finger will get the ball flaring quicker and swing the cg right about 2 inches and use a weight hole. This should get the ball reading the midlane (imperative for medium to longer patterns) and still leave something for the backend. If you want the ball to hook sooner, sand down. If you want a little more length and more backend, sand up first before adding polish (meaning trying different abralon pads up to 4000 before you go with a 1000 pad with polish as high as 4000 with polish). Sounds like the Black Widow is the better choice. GOOD LUCK!!!

Pain is early rolly and even and Black Widow handles less oil and sometimes get jumpy off the breakpoint almost like pearlized ball at times. If over medium/heavy the Pain or Hawgzilla are much better choices if more medium the Widow is a keeper that i am not selling anytime soon.

I have a Pain and two Dooms. The Pain starts up earlier and rolls continuously through the hole. It will handle medium/heavy depending on the drill. I have one Doom with the pin over the ring finger and the cg kicked with a little polish, great for the last game of the set on THS. I have another Doom drilled pin low next to the ring finger the cg kicked, its a step down from my Pain which is drilled label pin below and next to the ring finger, cg in the palm. I also track high and am a tweener that throws the ball around 15-16 I tend to like control type balls which is what the Pain gives me. I've have a couple of buddies that have the Black Widow. Its a different look than the pain, but it can be used on medium/heavy with surface prep and the right drill. I'm thinking of getting a Black widow to open up the lanes and as a step down from the Pain. You can't got wrong with a Pain for medium/heavy a Black widow for medium and a Doom for light/medium drilled for length. 2cents.

pain - mine is at 2000 grit abralon

widow - 2000 abralon used and one that is 400o with some polish

the pain being at the 2000 grit abralon makes it read the midlanes perfectly... if there is a hint of some carry down it is not the best go to bowl... more of a freshs hot or pattern will benefit this ball greatly... and mine is drilled with a 5 x 4.5 layout... so the pin is far above my bridge and the cg under the ring... this is definitely a fresh pattern ball to open up the lane a bit...

both widows are insane... they are just unmatched as i have said in numerous other threads... the 2000 wet abralon one is drill with a 4 x 3 layout with the pin far above my ring finger and the cg and Mb swung out a bit.. my Mb is about 2 inches from the thumb... this ball is cleaner through the heads and can account for carry down... now when it pushes too far through wet heads i can switch to the lightly polished 4000 grit abralon widow that is pin below the middle finger and the MB is swung out about 4 inches from the thumb putting it in a very strong position... this causes a clean look through the heads but that extra 5 foot jumpstart over the pinup widow and still has that great bite on the back....

both balls are a great addition to anyones lineup... i also have a doom... so if a pearl reaction is necessary over the skid snap of the solid widow... it is taken care of

I just bought both of these and drilled both the same, pin inbetween and below fingers with cg kicked.

Both balls were obb.

The pain got into a roll very fast v. the widow.
They both hook about the same its just where, the pain is all midlane and early, the widow is all in midlane and backend. Widow flips Pain arcs.

Both carry great are phenominal pieces and having both are definatly an asset in your bag.

Ps: I still have another pain to drill up, its that good I bougt a second one.
