Sling Blade

Has anyone tried the new Sling Blade?  From what I have read, it looks like a go long ball.

I find the SlingBlade to be longer and less snap at the breakpoint from the Blade Reactive Pearl.

I just received my BTM with the Sling Blade review, and it kindled my interest.  I am a Diesel fan, but I don't really have a roster spot available for the Turbo Diesel.  I have an opening for a ball with the characteristics of the Sling Blade--at least from what I've heard so far.  I'll be interested to hear more as the reviews start to trickle in.

I was just at the pro shop where I make all my purchases and found to my surprise that they have not been able to get any of the new Hammer releases yet.  This surprised me, since this is a very high volume and well respected pro shop.  Hammer had these balls on the approved for use list as of February.  What's the hold-up?

Aleta Sill was on the lanes giving some guy a lesson, so I hung around a bit to see if I could pick up anything by osmosis.

I'm in total agreement with Wood.  I drilled the Sling up last night and threw it for the first time on a shot that I haven't scored on in months.  I have pretty sever span change and this was the first time I've tried it out.  No practice and I didn't have my spare ball with me and missed a couple of 7 pins.  I still shot 773 and couldn't believe the roll this ball had.  It was so smooth through the heads and not snappy on the back but very forgiving.  This house is known for leaving flat corners and the Sling kicked them out like it was nothing.

I'll write more about this ball but I was so excited about it I had to post how great I think this ball will be.  Hammer has a winner with this one.

I threw the Sling last night in a King of the Hill and won.  Some of the guys wanted to bowl for 10.00 a game and I won 7 straight games averaging over 240.  There were two full time PBA player each with titles and a team USA member.  After the 7th game, one of the PBA guys said "The only way I'll bowl you is if you change balls"  What a compliment to Hammer.  These guys are on staff with another company but said it had the best reaction they'd ever seen.  For the money, this is the best ball in the world!

I've owned the ball two days and it's already paid for itself and more.

Leftside, I think you'll love this ball on a clean house shot.

Last night I bowled a Summer Sport Shot league and threw the solid in practice but it seemed to hook a little to early.  The last couple of shots, I moved into 15 and threw the Sling.  I had skid in the oil but enough recovery on the backend to carry the 7 (lefty).  I've bowled in this house for years and know that when I'm in to 15 and hit the half pocket, I'll leave a weak 7.  Not with the Sling. I shot 690 with a few bad shots. Next highest in the league was 582.  I used to say, "It's the bowler, not the ball" but with the Sling Blade, it is the ball.

After league was over, I tried a ball from another company and had a good look at the pocket, but couldn't carry the 7 and even left a 7-9.  We all know how that can affect your score.
Leftside, good luck with this ball, I'm sure you'll love it.

I'm just about to head over to the pro shop to pick up my Sling Blade.  I have been wanting to try a drilling that I have never had before, and I think (hope) that this ball will fill the arsenal spot I have vacant with this drilling.  I've never had a pin placement closer than 2.5 inches from my PAP before.  I discussed with my driller the idea of trying a pin-axis drilling.  I realize that this will essentially kill most of the flare.  I'm looking for a ball to handle drying out heads and mids with hopefully enough punch left for the back.  We decided to go with a ball with a 3 inch pin and place the pin one inch from my axis in the direction of the fingers.  This will place the CG just over an inch from my grip center.  Since the ball has a starting top of 3.25 ounces, undoubtedly a small hole will be required, which we'll put right on the axis--as small as possible to be legal, allowing for the possibility of enlarging it if that seems desirable.  I'm hoping to be able to play a little more outside than is usually necessary on the condition I'm thinking of; hopefully achieving that by killing the flare.  If all goes as planned, the ball will have a smooth roll with just a little tip at the end.  That's the plan, anyway.  Since I've never tried this type of drilling before, trying it first in an inexpensive ball seems like a good idea, especially since this particular ball seems conducive to that type of drilling.  If the experiment fails, well, nothing ventured nothing gained.  I can always have it redrilled, or just buy another one.  The Sling Blade ought to be on the market for at least another month or so; even at today's pace.

I probably won't be able to try it out till the middle of next week, since my available bowling time for this week was yesterday--couldn't get that Sling Blade quite in time for that.  I'll post results as soon as I have any.
