Title: Taboo Jet black question
Post by: Blueprint on January 21, 2012, 11:38:01 AM
Is the coverstock on the new taboo jet black a solid or a pearl?

Pretty sure it's a solid.
Buddies has it listed as a solid.
The info here on ballreviews is given to Ballreviews by the manufacturer (as far as I know) and they also have it listed as solid:

Cool... I figured it was, but I wasn't sure. On the hammer website it just says GTR lll. Doesn't say pearl or solid. I didn't even think about looking at the ball review description. So it's just the opposite concept of the Taboo blue and silver (pearl cover no polish). Should definitely give you the length of a polished pearl, with a  more smooth controllable motion on the backend. That intrigues me, because it will help with over/under that you see with most polished pearl balls.

Look at the video on the Hammer web site.

It doesn't strike me as "smooth and controllable". I think it was designed to be anything but smooth.

But look and decide for yourself.

So how does the epidemic compare to the jet black?

I'd like that too since they have the same Core - Cover - Finish numbers but the Epidemic is a pearl and the TJB is a solid...

For me, the Jet Black is very clean through the fronts with a angular movement in the backends. I love both balls and them drilled similar, so I see that the Taboo is about 3-4 boards stronger overall. The Epidemic is angular too, but a little touchy when it hits the friction due to the pearl cover.

I hope this helps ya.
