I'm a Senior Bowler. My present "first-ball workhorse" is a Hammer "Raw Toxic", bowling on medium oil at Poelking Lanes South, Dayton, Ohio, where they oil  (sometimes OVER-OIL?) just before we bowl on Monday nights. I'm CONFUSED:

For Christmas, my Wife offered to buy me a  Hammer "Taboo", after we watched Bill O'Neil win a Pro Tournament using one; however, our Local Pro told me the new Taboo was intended for much more oil than our house condition.  He recomended a Hammer "Grind"  or a Hammer "Brawl".  Can anyone provide some facts on how these balls compare bowling on a medium oil condition?

Both the Grind and Brawl are going to be stronger than your Toxic. The Grind has the Original Black Widow Cover and the Brawl has the Black Widow Sting Cover. The difference you will see, since the covers are stronger, is they will start up earlier and therefore won't have as strong of a backend compared to your Toxic. The Brawl will probably be a better choice for you as it is stronger in the back and therefore won't be as drastic of a change compared to the Toxic. Hope this helps and if you have any further questions feel free to ask.

I think it really depends on your ball speed and rev rate. The Taboo is really a strong ball with the sanded finish, I have had problems keeping the sanded balls from over hooking and missing the pocket because of my ball speed. I ended up going with a strong ball that is meant for heavier oil than I am using it for but with a pearl cover and it seems to match real well with me.

01-13-2011 / P.S.:

To replace my "Toxic Raw Hammer", I considered  the following balls for my primary first-ball "strike-producer":  (1) Vibe Onyx, (2) Hardcore Hammer Grind, and (3) the "Hardcore Hammer Brawl".  After some research, I ordered a new "Hardcore Hammer Brawl" yesterday, and hope I made the right choice. Anyone  have any advice/

comments/pointers before I test it out next week after it's drilled?
