Toxic drilling question
« on: December 03, 2007, 05:02:31 PM »
I've got a used Toxic coming into my possession, and I need some insight as to how to drill the bad dog up.

Here's what I'm looking for: I want this ball to go a couple of feet longer and react quicker off the friction than my Black Widow (solid) does. That Widow is drilled pin under bridge, cg kicked slightly right, LMB strong with just a hint of shine.

As for me, although I can adjust up and down, I typically throw the ball 18-18.5 mph with slightly above average revs and a fairly high track.

I'm thinking about 1 of 3 possible layouts.

1) Pin above ring, cg kicked slightly right

2) Pin even or slightly above ring, cg under ring

3) Pin below ring, cg slightly right.

I guess my question comes into play because I'm not quite sure how much naturaly push I'll get from this ball. With my higher level of speed, will putting the pin above make the ball push through the breakpoint? What do all of you have to say?

The TOXIC in box condition will give you a lot of length.  If your on the right conditions for the ball you won't have to worry about shooting past the break point no matter which layout you choose.

The TOXIC is all about length and back end reaction.  This ball has a very high response to friction.

I would use layout #1 from your choices.  Pin above the fingers type layout should be good for this ball.  It should give you what your looking for.

I had a Toxic that was pin under ring, cg kicked slightly right. That ball was suprisingly strong. Great down and in archy ball. Until it cracked.......

The toxic will naturally be a little longer and a little more angular than your BW solid...that being said. I would go with the first of your three choices. That one will provide you the most length/flip of the three, and therefore the most separation between it and your BW. I don't think you'll have a problem pushing it through the breakpoint, but if you do, just take 4000 abralon to it to knock off the shine. That should do the trick to make it start a touch sooner, but it will maintain it's angularity. You won't be dissapointed with the toxic..it's a great ball.

#1 is your best bet.......pin above ring, cg slightly right.

Mine is laid out pin above bridge, and cg slightly right, and I love it. Definitely got a lot of backend, and built-in length!

Add revs, and you have a monster on your hands!

Mine is pin above, 5 1/2 pin/pap, cg kicked 3/4 in approximately right of center and it's great when length and snap are wanted/needed.

I have moments that I think I want to get rid of it and try something else, then I toss it and  naw...it stays with me.
