The New Hammer Black Widow 2.0 Is A Beast!!
« on: December 01, 2020, 05:18:51 PM »
My first thoughts, like a lot of you, was please let this Black Widow 2.0 (The re release of the Original) be just like the original. Please!
The anticipation of this release was going to be “special.” It had to be. We couldn’t release the Black Widow unless it was as close to perfect as one could get.

I can, without a doubt, say that this Black Widow 2.0 is every bit similar as the original. The original was smooth but very continuous down-lane and had the ability to be used from every angle you could imagine.  It’s the ball that helped me shoot my first 800 series. Without a doubt the Black Widow 2.0 is all of the above. So similar that I can’t remember which is which. The 2.0 is a ball that everyone should have and even have more than one. I have a pin up and pin down. I also have a couple undrilled for backups. If you can afford to buy more than one. Do it! It will be the best purchase you ever made.

What are the differences between the pin up and pin down 2.0?

For me the Differences of each is as follows:

The Pin Down: This drilling is smoother for me. Stronger throughout the lane. To the naked eye, straighter. The 2.0 pin down is super controllable, Strong and continuous. For me, it's great for fresh and through some of the break-down of the lane pattern.

The Pin Up: In the Black Widow 2.0, is longer on the fresh and has a tad more motion down-lane. For me, the pin up version is a go to once the lanes start to dry out and I need to move more left than the Pin down version allows me to do.

Hope this helps!

Maybe it's just me, but I don't match up with the BW 2.0 at all.  It goes 50ft then jacks left.  Its one of those balls you go Double, Big 4, Washout, 9 pin, 10 pin, Double .... all for a crowd pleasing 190.  Its right up there with the Storm Phase 3 ... another overhyped POS.

BeerLeague .........I have not thrown the BW2.0, nor have I seen it thrown yet, but I too never matched up to any of the Widow line! Some balls just aren't for everybody!

Just because a ball doesn’t match up to you, DOESN'T mean it’s a bad ball, just bad ball reaction.  It’s a reason why bowling balls are made with different cores, and covers and coverstock  finishes, along with the bowlers’ personal numbers.

For Beer League, I guess I didn't read your post that closely before I posted.  But as a lefty who is a reaction maximizer I am surprised to hear that about a Solid Black Widow.

Usually the Fresher and overreactive left side show the balls that have too much reaction much more than the quickly blended out right.  You have the same drilling on the BW 2.0 as you did your first Original BW?

If you didn't have one very often it is the drilling on these Assyms that makes them so overreactive.

I have the original BW and find it VERY Very smooth, Long, Strong And readable.  Of course there are more rounded reaction balls in old Columbia Solid Particles and very rounded core symmetric solids.

Let us know more on your drillings or surface.  This ball can probably be tweaked to be a winner for you.  Especially with your strong pro Tour type personal specs!

New to this group.

I just ordered the Black Widow 2.0 and plan on having it polished and then drilled conservatively with the pin on top.  I can't seem to get away from the Hammer line and need a ball that hooks less than my Redemption Hybrid and Obsession Tour.  Hoping this will be a good choice when the lanes begin breaking down.

Update to come after drilling next week.
Arsenal: Hammer Redemption Hybrid, Hammer Obsession Tour (polished), Motiv Deadliest Venom (gave it away free), Hammer Black Widow 2.0 (polished)  Throw 17MPH and have a higher rev rate than average bowlers.  214 average.
