Title: Thoughts on Taboo Spare
Post by: WOWZERS on February 16, 2012, 02:48:09 AM
Hello,

Anyone put this ball in use for anything more than a spare ball yet? If so, how well did it manage corners, etc?

Thanks,

I have actually used this on the shorter patterns 32-34 feet playing the gutter & had success with it carrying the 10 pin. Other than that, it is a great looking (Superman colors) spare ball with a Gas Mask weight block in it.

Mike, have you altered the surface at all? I could see this being a ths killer with some surface. I'm using all AMF and 900 Global right now, but am seriously considering picking one of these up.

I hit mine with a 3000 pad after drilling the ball to give me a little bit of a roll. Have hit it 1 time with a 4000 pad to take the lane shine off of it. Have about 40 complete games on it.

How is yours drilled? Every one I've seen is drilled strong.

I have a friend who owns a Taboo spare (polished) and watching him throw it made me very surprised as to how much it moves even with it being a spare ball. He normally throws it from 15 to 8-6 at breakpoint and it makes a semi-sharp move on the backend. I wouldn't say it's skid-flip but it's pretty close to it and he has it drilled pin above the bridge. I normally don't throw Hammer but I would like to get one because the colors looks cool.

Well, with a diff of .060, I can see why!

I drilled mine pretty strong because I wanted it to replace my Black XXXL which is drilled strong. So I used a 50x4x40 with a P2 weighthole. I also hit the ball with my Haus armed with 3000 Siaair pads for 3 minutes.

I am still learning how to use this ball. It's too strong at times and too weak at others. Mike is correct in that it works well playing straighter when the patterns are shorter. Playing away from the pocket is not an option unless you have a lot of dry boards out back.

A bit more surface and this ball could possibly be a house shot killer if you have some hand.
