USBC Doubles title with Plague
« on: August 26, 2010, 02:27:18 PM »
Well with a heavy head from recovering from a wedding and family squabbles I decided to attend a USBC sanctioned doubles tournament. The shot was a modified house pattern with a drenched spot from the second arrow out.. And a big splash of oil in the middle.. What this lead to if you hit the third arrrow the ball would jump but it you missed inside or touched the third arrow the ball skid. This was the first time I had seen such a pattern and it varied on the end pairs in the house. From what I understand that the pattern was applied over what ever else was on the lane without stripping the last pattern off. Well I started off horrible shooting a series of 180 games.. but my partner was lights out.. shooting excellent with a polished mutant cell going straight up 10 and walking to the pocket. This was a 4 game series and on the third game we were just outside the top 5 (step ladder format). We both need a big game to ensure that we make the step ladder. We ended up on the outside pair of the house where nearly everyone shot 120;s on. I followed suit with a wreck of a game.. 140.. my doubles partner shot 279 on it. I felt like the laugh of the house as everyone was like "Wow you shot 279 what did you partner shoot.. hahah he shot what?" Well I figured we might have a chance since a 279 has a way of changing things. We qualified 5th by 5 pins so we were set to start the step ladder. The higher seed team had choice of lane.. naturally they picked 1 and 2 as thats what I shot lowest on. I was totally pissed as I vowed to make them pay for the laughing if we just managed to make it. Well lets just say I put the proverbial foot in some asses. I decided to move far far inside of my partner as he was locked in and I didnt want to ruin his line. I came out with 259 with the plague.. I moved deep inside with my left foot a board from the ball return..with my breakpoint at the third arrow with lots of speed.. minimal hand. I went on a streak to finish out first place and averaging 230 in the finals.. My partner averaged 215......what makes you laugh makes you cry sometimes.. I guess it wasnt so funny at the end of the day for those clowns!!!!
