Venom Layout
« on: October 13, 2008, 01:19:22 PM »
Hi there guys and gals. I need a hand here since I have no experience with this ball thus far this season.

While the ball looks great and it definitely a quality piece I have not been able to generate any interest in this ball at our local house. I am contemplating drilling one up for our 3rd game when the lanes just start screaming and my Tsunami won't go right of the headpin.

Has anyone drilled a Venom like this?

I am looking to play inside so I need length with a sharp angle so I get the 10 pin out.

I am a Lane 1 diehard but they don't have anything in their line up that's a true skid-flip ball.

Or do you guys think i am barking up the wrong tree? I have a pair of VEnoms here and a pair of Psychos so I was going to try and get one of them to fill the slot.  Or should I be looking at a Vibe instead?

Thanks in advance for the input and suggestions.

Hi Doug:
Good luck with the ball, I got to take mine out for practice tonight, and the pin below the bridge was just what I wanted.  Gave me more flip than my Psycho, and puts that skid flip reaction in my bag that I wanted.  Hope yours works as well for you.

Well guys this layout will give me about 5-1/2 x 5.

As I said I was thinking Venom since I have a couple of them here :-)

Pin up vs pin down....I don't tend to like pin down drills except on a  Black Widow Pearl I had which was pin under bridge. I normally rumble the fingers with pin under.

I'll think on this deal some more.

Doug, I would stick with a pin up layout so you don't clip the fingers.  I can't use pin down layouts on most equipment because of the same reason of clipping the fingers (high ball track).

Trying to pick out the best layout for your needs is kind of hit or miss in my opinion because i've never seen you bowl.  For me pin above the bridge 5.5" from my pap, MB in the strong position (next to thumb) gives me an awesome back end reaction.  In fact, pin above the bridge gives me an awesome back end reaction on any ball i've used that pin placement on.  95 percent of all my equipment gets the pin above the bridge pin placement.

How much backend flip are you looking for?  Stronger pin placements can offer more srength at the break point but also give more read in the mid-lane.  I've found that stronger pin placements/ layouts also make it harder to control the reaction.  On top of the control factor the stronger pin placements/layouts also force me to move more often.

The layout you have in the pic is my favorite layout of all time.  You should give it a go!  If you decide to use this layout let me know how it works for you.

AHH Chitown - it is SO good to see that we still agree on layouts!!
Pin up 60* is just my FAVORITE layout and I put it in EVERY new nug!

I have a Venom with this layout....I don't think this ball "FLIPS" as much as the ORIGINAL BW, but it will definately fit your bill Doug.

Nice to see you looking at a company OTHER then LANE 1 and VERY happy to see that it is HAMMER!!

I STILL swear the best bowling products come from the USA and the majority of those come from Hopkinsville, KY!!

Well Jason IF Lane 1 still had a ball in their line up like the Silver Diamond or Dirty Bomb I'd be drilling that ball instead of a Venom.

I do tend to play around with equipment from time to time but I keep coming back to Lane 1. I used to be strictly Hammer but when they refused to join the resin revolution back in the early 90's I started looking around. I threw a lot of Storm stuff for quite awhile and loved a bunch of the stuff at the time...Eraser PBT, X Factor, Firepower, Deuce, Trauma, CorePower LRG....but I have not been able to get hooked on any of their newer stuff. I liked my Special Agent and Spitfire but the carry didn't match my Lane 1 stuff at the time.

I hope this Venom lives up to my expectations....I really want to play with a Psycho too!!!!
