Vibe questions
« on: June 12, 2019, 11:37:52 AM »
Please correct me if I'm wrong but it is my understanding that the Cherry Vibe has a "skid flip" motion, the Blue has more in the mid-lane with a smooth rear end, and the Onyx has both mid-lane and a "flip" down lane.  So, what does the Orange do?

Also, how do these balls compare with the Ebonite Destiny Pearl and Hybrid or maybe even the Turbo/R?

To my understanding the Orange is a re-make of the Onyx with an orange coverstock.  As for how the Vibes compare to the Destiny series, I am not sure.  My guess is the Vibes would be a step up.

Vibes are a step down from the Destiny series using the GB 11.2 covers. I'd say pretty close to the Turbo/R

The Orange is same cover as the Blue Vibe. My understanding from a couple of people is the lighter Orange color allows the ball to be very slightly earlier and smoother than the Blue

I would not say the Cherry has a skid/flip motion. Too much depends on the bowler, the oil and the drilling. It is a pearlized version of the Blue (technically a solid) so it goes longer with a sharper breakpoint than the Blue.

I'd also not say the Blue has a smooth breakpoint; it may or it may not, depending on the same factors above. With the same bowler, the same drilling and the same oil, it will have a smoother, earlier breakpoint than the Cherry.

The Onyx has a slightly grippier coverstock than the Blue; so, again, same bowler, same drilling, same oil, it hooks earlier and smoother and more than than the Blue.

The Orange, according to Hammer web site,
https://hammerbowling.com/products/orange-vibe
has almost the exact same specs as the Blue, near as I can tell. So it should be very close to the Blue in overall reaction (with tiny discrepancies depending on the effect of the color difference).

Hammer does describe the reaction slightly differently: "REACTION Length w/ Continuous Backend", compared to the Blue's "Length w/ Controlled Backend".

With their cores' specs being identical, the coverstocks' being identical , and the surface finish being identical, the only difference accounting for Hammer's descriptions is the color.

I have the blue, black and now the orange

love the blue, matches up very well as long as there is defined friction
Black is a good foot earlier and 3-4 stronger than the blue. A bit faster reacting to friction.
The orange is right between those 2 and definitely has a slower response to friction.
I will get rid of the black and keep the orange, been able to use it our of the bag last 2 weeks on summer lower volume patterns.
Best vibe to date IMO and I really loved the original blue

Hey Hammerheads

In my Wednesday night league the shot has over/under and a lot of carry down and real strong balls are pretty much dead but a weak ball works well. go figure.

So the last few league nights after the shot turned to trash I tried my Ebonite Cyclone up the boards and it worked nicely but it would have been better to have something a little stronger and a solid too.

I was thinking about the Orange Vibe but if the Destiny series is stronger then the Vibes do you think I should try that instead?

Thanks

New Magenta Destiny has been great for what you are describing.
A lot of performance for a lower price

Keep in mind that this is more ball than the orange vibe.
And more than the cyclone.
If you get this and it’s a bit to much, you can adjust the surface to change the shape of need be

Can't speak for the others, but the Onyx has been phenomenal for me when the lanes get torched and I need to create angle from deep.

Oh,  OK I'll tell you what I know about some of these querries above and then I'll try to learn a little bit more about the Vibes.

To clear up some confusion on Destiny/ Cyclones I thought I would put a few things I know out here.

The Cyclone when it came out about 6 or so years ago was listed as a weak ball replacement for the Tornado's.  Not even close.  The Tornado's were Pancake balls or Pancake and puck with much higher rg's than the Cyclones for more length and than had diffs of about .043 if with pancake and puck.  (they would go much longer with less midlane than a Cyclone if drilled similarly.  As the Specs on the Symmetrical Cyclones at 15 were RG of 2.53 and .053 diff.

The Cyclones were strong enough balls that in one of their first years they won in the same year the Men's Senior US open and the Woman's US open.  Their coverstock much like other supposed low end balls of the time(like the Freezes from Columbia) were sort of mystery meat!  Most of them looked a little like Hybrids with varying amounts of Solid added in based on color.

Now the Destiny's have come out and they have the same strong core as the Cyclone but they are now clearly delineated as Solid, Pearl, and Hybrid(looks like most of the balls called Cyclone).  Another way of saying it is Solid Strong, Pearly STrong, and Hybrid Strong and now Strong Strong in the Magenta Purple Destiny.

One more thing I know before things I want to learn.

This year a friend of mine and I picked up a Black Onyx Vibe(me, new version no Mica like the original), and my friend picked up a Pearly dark Blue colored Vibe.

My  new Onyx Vibe pushes more than my old one(which has Mica and I have owned for almost 10 years) and has a very somoth and readable and controlled powerful backend beautiful on a lite oil top hat.

My friends dark blue Pearly Vibe, Has really turned into a beast for him on our light volume 42 foot shot, giving him wonderful area and scores really playing the easy top hat on the right beautifully.  I want one! and he wants one of my Blacks also.

The question I have is does my friend have a version of the new Blue Vibe or the old Blue Vibe(both listed as solids) or the Midnight Vibe?  The Blue Vibe from the early  2000's listed with CT coverstock was bright blue and had a pearly look to it.

I did look at the serial number and it has a lot of 10s in it.  Does that point me to the answer?  Is there much difference between today's new Blue Vibe and the Midnight Vibe pearl to those devoted Vibe users?

Sincerely,

Luckylefty
