Since the hammer/ebonite merger, which is the most versatile hammer ball in the lineup past or present? You know, the ball you can take 2 or 3 of, and have completely different reactions based on drill and cover prep. I can get any of the past or present releases and I was just thinking of getting two of the same ball to practice with all of the summer.

Prob V2.... sanded it works on oil and polished it will get farther down the lane. Not a lot of Differential to make it to crazy.

Also Big Blue's are worth a look. Both pearl and solid

Big Blue, this ball handles dull as well as any and will give you ultimate consistency. Polished, different drill, you'll get length and backend POP!

I'm thinking since this was in the Hammer forum, that he is looking for a Hammer ball.

OK, my opinion will most likely be be different from others.

Sling Blade- Cover is too strong for the DRY lanes- trust me, Ive drilled 3 of them and they are really strong.

Big Blue- I haven't played with this one enough to know for sure.

Diesels- The cores seem to rev very quickly for me. I don't really need all of that core help.

The ball that I "liked" the most, and thought was the most versitile so far was the Vicious Particle Pearl. I had 3 of them. 3 different surfaces. 3 different reactions. It was a particle pearl, so I never go the really long skid/jerk, but with some surface, these balls would hook on a flood.

Correct but he mentioned Ebonite Hammer merger so my mind thought Ebonite. Ooops. I did throw a Hammer ball in there. In my estimation the Diesels are to Lo-RG and to much Differential to be as versatile as one would want. I used the regular Vicious for about 1-2 season when they first came out and it was pretty verstile

Yesterday I was practicing and was really having a great reaction with my Eraser Particle pearl on medium. I've also covered a bunch of conditions with it both up and down the oil scale.

Right next to me a guy was throwing a ball which had a pretty similar good overall medium reaction. Maybe just a touch earlier but it didn't look as pearly. This one was quite blue and I thought it was a dulled Eraser Particle pearl.

Since I think right now the Eraser Particle pearl may be the most versatile ball in my bag EVER! I'd say that the power diesel looked very comparable, maybe just a touch earlier and stronger! A little lower rg(lots of rev up) and a little less pearly cover.

Not bad at all, was going to put a seperate post before I saw this one!

PS a guy in my league throws the turbo diesel and the blade pearl. He tends to go from the turbo to the blade quickly and I was thinking how well this PD fits right in the middle!

A lot of the new Hammer stuff is good, but I think that the Blade Pearl is the most versatile ball of them all. Put a lable drilling on it and you can play firm and straight or go deep and swing the lane. The ball is very receptive to release changes. The coverstock is durable and the ball hits like a ton of bricks. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong with this one. It was one of the best balls that I've come across in the last few years, and, lord knows, I've thrown plenty. I'm still considering picking another one up. To try it is to love it.

I just recently sterted bowling again (after an 8 year retirement). I started off bowling with my Old Blue Hammer soon learning that she just didn't have the reaction that I used to get out of it when I was 16. So I went to the Pro-Shop yesterday 5-27-04 and purchased the Hammer Switch Blade. WOW was I impressed shortly after I got her drilled out. (not excatly sure the proper measurements, just a basic set-up for medium lane conditions) I went out on the lanes to get of feel for the ol' gal, and after of few small approach adjustments I was smashing the the 1-3 pocket. Ball is very forgiving if you come in high (no splits mostly strikes)ended up stringing 5 in a row followed by some solid 10 pins. Not too many messagers though, but overall I was impressed finishing up with a 236 with one open frame. Can't wait to try it out in league tommorow!!!!!!
