Out of the two you listed I would go with the Arson Low Flare (Solid). If you were trying to stay with Hammer I would recommend the Black Widow Legend or Black Widow Assassin as well. I have both of them and they work quite well.

If you are looking for a hooking ball for a great price, check out the Burgundy Hammer. This ball hooks more than the Viral & ALF Solid for the heavier house shot patterns... Just my 2 cents...

I have the burgundy at 500 was to much for our houseshots. But I actually bought mine because of the low diff and vibe core.Took it to 2000 and polish and its great. To me the Low flare arson price is way to high for a ball with that low of diff.Mines drilled with a 4 inch pin to pap and only flares about 3 inches.Hard to beat for the price.Just thought I would throw in another option that works great on dry too.

I drilled mine with a 5" pin to PAP. Barely flares, and gets down lane great with a consistent pop on the back. In short, It's the best ball I own. Kills our second shift league, but is also very effective on the fresh playing the friction, which I struggle to do with any other ball.

I'm currently leading handicap all events in my association tournament, and this ball is a big reason why. I'll almost definitely get another.

haha as a matter of fact, i had an assassin, it has my one and only 300 on it :) so i do love that ball, but it seems to have lost its "fun factor" and is no longer the new ball i like to go to i noticed i leave alot of flat 10's with it now that it lost it's OOB hook, large gash in the track might tribute to it's lost hook also, went for a 10 pin and it bounced high in the pit  :'( seems like everyones going for the ALF solid, which makes me sad cause i reciently bought a viral thinking it was going to be the better ball, but i figured id get everyones fair opinion

The Viral is a good ball IMO. I have one myself and it can be used with success on a THS. It's just like all other balls, they perform best when used on the conditions that they are meant for.

I'm sure you are referring to the ALF solid, and not the ALF hybrid.  I have had the hybrid version for awhile now, and the reason I haven't picked up the solid is because I can't imagine it being more ball than the hybrid.  It is MUCH stronger than I had planned on.  My step down from the hybrid is actually a Lights Out, which by no means is a tame ball itself.  But compared to the ALF hybrid, it is much cleaner, longer, and smoother on the back.  Depending on how much the lanes have broken down, I'm 8-10 boards right with the Lights Out.  I'd wager that the ALF solid would be a remarkable ball on fresh med-heavy if you don't want to have to open your angles up right away.
