My Black Widow is dying
« on: October 08, 2006, 07:33:38 AM »
This ball for me was tremendous for about 50 games or so.  Then I started noticing a lack of reaction.  So what I did was sand it to 1000 with some Clean n Dull, then did a hot water soak.  After that I brought it back up to 4000 Abralon.  It still isn't the ball that I bought.  It goes real long, tries to make a move on the back, and quits.  Before it would start in the mids and never stop.  I noticed another bowler yesterday with one and his looked very similar.  Has anyone else had this problem, and if you did, how did you remedy it?  I don't want to give up on it because it was SOOO good, but it is coming out of my bag for now.

LOL, I thought about that but it would bring bad karma.  I know it's not the oil pattern.  I've used it regularly during 3 different leagues and a weekly tourney, but it's the same story on all of them.  My Epic with probably 200 games on it has not shown any loss of life at all.  Maybe I'll entertain offers on it if I can't find anything that works for me.

Both mine roll better with more games on them than when I first got them. What method did you use to take the cover down and then back up? Also did you do it on a spinner?

I did consider taking it down to 320 or even 220 before the soak, but to be honest I didn't have time to bring it back up to OOB if I would have taken it that low.  So on my spinner I used 1000 grit and Clean n Dull instead of water, thinking that would pull more oil out prior to the soak.

I took it to the shop tonight and they threw it in the Rejuvinator for about an hour.  It was pretty oil-soaked.  After they took it out I noticed a couple of hairline cracks around my fingers and pin  I'll throw it tonight, but I don't expect it to last too many frames before it cracks out on me.

I plan on selling mines too because it's not the ball I bought 3 months ago.

Remember, when changing the surface on the ball it matters in which direction you finish with the sanding lines. If you sand with the track it will get alot more length. If you sand across the track the ball will read earlier. Try taking it back to 2000 with abralon and cross the track. May help...may not. Worth a shot.

maybe the ball is just tracked up.I have two,one polished and one box finish and the box finish one is puke compared to the polished one.the new one is great for fresh oil but as soon as the track sets in it's only good for ten pins.

You might want to try hook again.I suggest to all my customers to use ebonite's energizer cleaner after every use and use the ebonite powerhouse towel. When trying hook again sand the ball to 500 abralon then let it set in hook again for 2 days. Then when you remove it then take it to the surface you want on it.

I have now thrown the ball in 2 leagues since the Rejuvinator treatment.  It is back, and might even be better than before.  Tonight I started with the Epic for a 278.  It started a bit too early in the 2nd game so I went to the Widow.  The reaction was great but I didn't move in soon enough.  I struggled to a 205.  Last game I went about 8 left with the feet.  18 at the arrows out to about 4.  The ball was ripping it up on the backend.  I finished with a 237 for a nice 720.  I guess now I'll just use it until the fingers crack out on me.
