Warranty length discrepancy?
« on: August 11, 2016, 06:12:13 AM »
I just purchased a Scandal. On the Hammer website it pitches a three year warranty. On the bottom of the box the ball arrived in stated a one year warranty.

Which is correct?

3 year against manufacturer defects.  Keep in mind there are specific rules that need to be followed.  The main one is that finger holes can not be drilled within 1" of the pin.  If you read the fine print of the warranty, if you install grips and a slug that also voids it.

My thought has always been to drill the ball the way I want to drill it.  If I want inserts or slugs or want to drill out the pin, then that is what I do.

If an issue arises, then I will see if I can get some kind of reimbursement.  If I feel I am being wronged, then I won't purchase their equipment anymore.  I quit getting too upset over things like that.

Your thinking is correct.

It is ok to drill the pin out completely.  That will not void the warranty.

I figured as much, but I just wanted to point out the warranties are archaic.  To insinuate using inserts will void a warranty is acknowledging you want an out if needed.  I am sure 99% of all performance balls use inserts.

I've never seen a company turn away a claim because the ball used a slug and inserts

Me either, but one questions why that statement is still included in many warranties.

For the option to exercise it. Just like houses state they won't cover damage to bowling balls but will still repair them. CYA.

Lane damage would never be a manufacturer's responsibility.  That's strictly between you and the house management.  --  JohnP

Do you think my miscellaneous post's ball scratch mark was lane damage or me not removing enough oil?
Will expand arsenal after I polish my spares.

Were you trying to remove the oil with a chisel?
