Title: Web Tour vs Venom Shock vs IQ Tour
Post by: iqfan on January 04, 2019, 09:25:03 PM
So the web tour came out recently, and I wonder how it compares with other balls with similar specs as above. I have the IQ tour and it works fine in straighter lines, and misses single pins if I bowl out in. Would the Web Tour be a good addition in house shots? Or would Venom Shock be better?

Bump. I want to know how the web tour and iq compare

If you already have the IQ, then I wouldn't probably add the Web Tour. I would go Venom Shock over Web Tour. All 3 are going to be pretty similar and quite a bit of overlap in a small bag.

Agreed Alonzo... I have the IQ, and Venom Shock, and have drilled the same (Different Surfaces)  to get different motions, and there is a bit of a differenc to warrant both in the bag for me (Not much though).

The Web Tour would overlap the IQ; Go Shock with different layout/surface of you wanna a little different shape.

I don’t have either yet, but I will be picking one up. Leaning towards the web tour more because I prefer EBI. Is the cover stock on the iq a bit weaker than on the web tour?

Others can chime in who have actually thrown the web, but from what I’ve seen yes imo.

I have the IQ Tour and the Web Tour. The two are very different balls.

The Web is simply a ball designed to handle more oil. The Web’s NIB cover is much more aggressive at 360/1000, but the IQ, even at the same grit, doesn’t compare. I can use the Web on volumes of oil I would never consider the IQ on.

When you think of the IQ, think of the GB2 as the more equivalent ball in the EBI line. That will help clarify thinking.

.

Spot on. WT handles more oil for sure

The Web Tour is really really really aggressive for me.

Too much ball for a house shot, and too much ball for my 40' sport shot.

From what I've seen and heard from experienced bowlers, the Web Tour tames out. If you want a different look, I would go Shock. If you want to phase your IQ out, the Web Tour will push it out.

Excellent description. I never take the ball with me to my THS league. In my Sport league currently putting down a 43' a lower volume shot, it still wants to check up too early. The Tour needs oil up front. More oil than either the IQ Tour or Venom Shock.

The Web Tour is more of a special purpose ball for most bowlers. Thus, Hammer's "Tour" designation. I wouldn't recommend the ball for THS unless you have higher ball speed and like to play tighter in the puddle in the middle.

For the OP, the regular Web is a better match on a THS If he's looking for a more aggressive version of the IQ Tour or Shock.

I also bought a Web Tour. It's more or less what I expected...like Hammer made a urethane for us mere mortals with 300 revs or less  ;D Unfortunately that's no good for my THS, which plays like the Sahara outside 8 and pretty long in the middle. Oh well. Can try less surface and see what happens, I guess.

That would be welcomed. I've thought about using it during practice and not cleaning it after.  It just has such a hard arc for me. It either misses the headpin on the left, leaves a 9 pin, or goes in the gutter because of the angles I feel like I have to play with it.

Trying to convince our league president to throw out a +44' pattern for next season so I can hopefully get some use out of it. I just didn't expect it to be so aggressive and clean.

Mine is a little flat in the house where they put a decent amount of oil down, but at my league venue it is stronger in the dry. It has lane shine now but quickly becomes a lot of ball by game 2-3. I’m debating hitting it with 2000 to see if I can tame it down. Mine is pin up and drilled neutral if I remember right.

You could take the cover to 3000 to speed up the process.

Totally disagree with not able to use on house, Shot 300 with mine the 1st day it was released. Definitely benchmark piece for me
Can I always use it, nope
Had some big sets with it
15.5 MPH 375ish rev
Old beat up high friction synthetics
Definitely not alot of volume
Hit mine with 1000 pad before each league session
I put mine away when the carry isn't so good, its easy to hit the pocket with this piece, carry seems to be better if I get around it a little
But no so good repeating that motion some days
Just my .02$ worth

Older topic by now, but I ended up bringing up the surface to 2000 and it's better for the house shot I have. With the box surface it seemed to be 9 pin madness, or else forcing me so far left I couldn't get it back with a breakpoint outside 10 (stroker here!) and so had to be perfect like a sport shot.

I could even experiment with 3000 to get it straighter like the Triton I want to replace with it, I suppose.

I’ve picked up a second WT
Higher pin just to be different than my 1st one
Have it 2000 polished and it continues quite well when playing the friction
