how to drill a no mercy beatn
« on: September 17, 2007, 02:06:22 AM »
my pap is 4 1/2 right 0 up/down. my rev rate is around 350-400 medium tracker id say and my speed is about 16.5-17. i did not like the original no mercy with the number one layout and different surface changes the ball just never worked...so does anyone have a suggestion on how to drill the no mercy beatn i figured im gonna try it out...wut layout should i try that would work best to go over my gamebreaker that is driled 4x3. im looking for a lil more length and more backedn than the gamebreaker...

thanks

Well if you didnt like the original with the number #1 layout and different surfaces, I wouldnt even consider the Beat'n....Its pretty much the same exact ball, with up a sligtly different coverstock.

I'd just make sure you get ball with the Pin-CG and HART lined up.  IMO this is the the main factor people had problems with the NM's.  They have to be laid out correctly for your style/technique.  HART in track and CG on correct side of ball to give you what you want.

You'll want to get the correct pin length plus make sure you're first flare line isn't too far away from thumb depending how you track.  I've seen a few that didn't put the HART far enough away from thumb to get the HART low enough into their track.  Make sure the CG winds up on the correct side of the ball if you are a righty to give you some positive weight unelss you don't want this.  Lots of factors drilling the NM's correctly for the user depending on their technique.  Gett your pro shop guy to get the right ball for you and lay it out correctly and you should be happy. The ones that have not been happy I am convinced did not get the ball set up correctly for them or the ball was not the right ball spec's wise for them.

BTW Ryan....send Brian Graham @Hammer an e-mail and ask him specs you'd need and layout.  You'll need to give him your stats. or best guesstimate.

I had my NM with that paticular layout and was quite happy.  Found one that had the cg right of the pin/hart line.. put the pin quite a ways above my ring finger (about a 4.5" pin for me) and the hart near my first oil ring.

Yep agree....if you are a righty don't buy an NM with the CG on the left side of the Pin HART line.  Secondly, Strapper you track relatively high....IF Ryan tracks lower keep that in mind Ryan you gotta get enough pin length so you can get the HART lower into your track. High trackers don't have this problem lower trackers will.

I have mine 4 1/2 pin to pap and the hart in track flare 2, after taking it too 1k no polish it became a heavy oil ball. Before that in box it was an over/under POS that i was going to sell to sixcranker since he asked me about it first.

My pin,cg and hart are in a row with no weight hole, i would have put the hart at more later break point position to get more backend if i did it again. It is a much better ball than the first release this one is worth keeping and if it gets to the pocket it explodes the rack.

I would not buy this ball for swinging the lanes, i have to play it direct and then it backends fairly well but less than many other newer balls out there.

Hey Ryan.

I just got a Hammer No Mercy Beat'n 2 weeks ago. I've only used it on a THS the last 3 nights of bowling. Anyway its setup using the #1 layout that the bag reccomends. Pin slightly right and above the ring finger, CG about 3/8" out of line to the right, and the HART is in the 1st and 2nd oil line. I am a high tracker with a good amount of revs.

I tried it with 2000 grit and it was too strong causing the ball to burn up before 35'. Shot 578 the 1st night with it on a 2nd shift oil. 2nd night this time at 4000 grit sheen polished on the same 2nd shift oil leauge I shot a 639 (needed to change balls to a pearl cover stock but wanted to see what i needed to do to keep it in the pocket) Then last night on a Fresh THS I shot 687 with it.

Its my 1st hammer ball in quite a long time. My last Hammer ball was when the Hammer Burgandy Urethane was released.... This ball has a new home in my bag and right now I have 2 killer balls that make up a sweet 1-2 punch. I can use my Total Inferno in the 3rd game as a weaker ball on the same line and continue to carry just as well.

THANKS HAMMER!

Mike's PAP ----> 5 7/16" right and 7/8" up. I track high.
Ryan's PAP ----> 4 1/2 right 0 up/down

Big difference between the two and how they should both layout the NM's IMO.  Plus Mike got his CG right of being in-line which should add some positive.  You get one with the CG shifted left IMO you are asking for trouble again depending on your technique and PAP plus what you want to end up with.

Good to hear your experience Mike.  You laid it out correctly it looks like.
