White Widow Pearl
« on: October 14, 2022, 09:22:50 AM »
I received a White Widow Pearl from my kids for Christmas last year and I've never been able to finish a game with it. Over/Under city, hits like a noodle etc.

I had the surface changed, and still, just bad. Well I decided to give it one last chance last night before I sold or gave it away. Started with 43 in the 4th....was ready to switch back to my trusty Rhodman Pearl but then decided to square up a bit.

Moved my feet about 2 boards left, moved my target 3 boards left and wouldn't you know it this ball really shined. Playing more of a direct line up around 6-7-8 it came off the pattern hard but controlled. Now if I missed right and got in on the 10 board it was flat 7 after flat 7. However my biggest problem was leaving stuffed 8 pins, so I had to adjust my feet slightly back right so it didn't pop off and come in high on the head pin.

Not only did I finish an entire game with it, I was able to finish the entire series with it. 225, 268, 235-728. My first 700 of the season at this house.

I just wanted to share because why not? I was not a fan of this ball at all....I'm going to take it with me to my Monday league and see if squaring up will work there too...

Do you have lower axis tilt?

Sounds like it could be an issue of the reaction being too forward, which can definitely be an issue with the gas mask core

I always struggled with the widow's myself.

I do much better with the good ol lightbulb cores...

Nothing wrong with a bit of figjam. Goes good on toast. :-)

Almost everyone that I've seen throw this ball has struggled with it. It's a skid/snap piece that requires the right condition; the right surface and the right style of bowler throwing it.

In my primary center I've only seen one person with low revs throw it well and one person with high speed throw it well. For everyone else it is over/under city!!

A total frustration. But......kudos to you. You finally got it to work!

FWIW (probably not much), the ball really does shine on high friction lanes in this area.  The lower friction the house, the more over/under it gets.  Also, by high friction lanes I mean the actual lane surface, not the amount of oil on the lanes.

Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

From watching a lot of Luke Rosdahl's videos; shiny pearls do not typically match up well on the left side on most house shots.  You have to remember there is a cliff outside 7 and if the shot on the left side is not broken down, you very well may encounter over under hell.  The "Jesus" balls for the left side are the Hustle Camo, IQ Tour, Phaze 2, and basically any solid that can help to blend in that over under.  The Ghost would typically be more like a Game 3 ball once that cliff blends itself out and you can move in.  You being left handed could greatly benefit from watching his youtube channel as he is very in depth and does many comparisons.  Even his pearls are typically hit with 3000 or the new 4K fast. I am including this video that is the perfect example of what I am talking about.

Just an update, I took it to the other house I'm in and squared up a bit as well. Reacted much better. I shot games of 227, 212 and 230. I missed a couple 7 pins (badly), threw a few bad shots, but overall, I got a nice reaction with it there as well.

A nice little 6 game run with it. I'm looking forward to getting some more games in with it.

I've had the original widow, pearl, bite and 2.0 and never had an issue scoring with them.

This one was just really squirrely. Glad I found a way...
