crack(d)! After 2 months!
« on: June 15, 2011, 01:08:15 PM »
So I found out before league tonight that my Jigsaw Trap cracked (outside the insert next to the ring finger).  It was a love/hate relationship with that ball, threw some great games with it but was also the weirdest ball.  Anyways I have a question for everyone out there.  If my pro shop can't repair this I am assuming it is covered under warranty?  I used to unfortunately work in retail so consequently I keep all of my sales receipts.  Has anyone ever dealt with Hammer regarding a warranty on a ball?  Is it quick to process and do they send a rebate for a new ball or do they reimburse the pro shop?  Also I don't know how this will work considering the Trap is either retired or about to be retired?  Will they replace it with a ball of equal or lesser value?  Thanks everyone!

I know this, you are FAR more likely to get a replacement ball BEFORE you try any repairs than you are if you do some work to it and then try to get it replaced. If you bought it through a local shop, they should be the ones to help you with the problem. If you bought it from an online outlet, then the person you bought it from should be the one to handle the situation.

The balls, in general, have a warranty on them against defects in workmanship, but most also state that any warranty is voided if you install grips, or if you drill ANY hole within 1/2 inch (or maybe 1 inch) of the pin. Many times your shop can get the distributor to go ahead and warrantee the ball anyway.

Many times, a major manufacturer will balk at dealing with an individual over a single ball.

 Good luck.

Go visit your Pro Shop. You purchased  the ball form them, they will do their best to help you.
Hammer, which is a Brand of Ebonite International is in business to help bowlers.
I am sure all will be taken care of.

I believe if you put inserts into a ball the warranty is voided as well..  Depends on how the crack is, the ball is probably still usable.  Balls chip and crack all the time around finger holes.

Unless it is actually cracked, you can plug the chips with no problem at all. And yes putting grips in the ball can void the warranty. It says so on every ball box.

UPDATE:  I went to my local pro shop where I bought the ball and explained to them the situation.  Ironically the Ebonite Intl. vendor happened to be in the shop as I brought in my Trap.  He didn't mention anything about grips voiding the warranty however they won't replace or ship out a cracked ball unless a piece falls off and it effects the ball's performance.  So I guess I'll just have to practice with the ball and see if there is any difference, or practice with it until a piece falls off and I can get it replaced under warranty.  Haha.  But thanks for the info everyone!
