Black Widow...the next "One"?
« on: June 29, 2006, 04:38:52 PM »
So whattya think, could the Black Widow end up like The One...big sales, big hype, popularity?  In my area, I couldn't believe how many people bought The One.  It was the first time I had EVER heard anyone say they bought a ball because they saw (Tommy Jones) throwing it on the PBA telecast.  From all the press I have seen, (and because the Black Widow is suposed to be another big bender), I think it could end up in the same boat.  Thoughts?

Considering the PBA isn't on until November...and Hammer doesn't have a staffer the caliber of Tommy how about this.  NO.  Your comment's major point seemed to be that poeple bought the One because of telecasts and you conclude with "do you think it will be in the same boat?"...no.

Sorry, my main point wasn't that The One sold because of the airtime it got on the PBA.  I simply added the point that it DID sell a few because of it.  It sold TONS just because of the general hype - before it even got on tv.  Sorry for my unclear wording!  I just see the Black Widow as possibly being as popular as The One.

Yes I feel this ball will be a huge seller.  I know a few bowlers that have one and a few that want one.  Hell I want one and don't have a need for it.

Personally, I try to avoid balls that Tommy Jones uses.

Of all the High end stuff that they released from the first viscious to the Road Hawg, the best in my opinion was the Big Deal.  Like the Real Deal, but much more readable, and the only difference being the core.  The Gas Mask core was really one of their better designs.  It fostered a smooth ball motion in everything it was in.  The fact that they also matched the core up with an agressive non polished solid was a great combo.  Although that ball didn't seem to sell to well, the rerelease of that core with a more appealing type of reaction, strong at the beakpoint, and a new line with a good name should mean big sales.  Whether the sales can equal those of the One depends on how well the word about this ball gets around.

In my area, Hammer hasn't had anything in recent years that could touch the sales of Ebonite's "One" or "Time" lines.  I've seen the BW and think it looks great, but I just don't see it happening.
