Well guys I know most of you are seriously hyped on the Agent Orange right now but I have to tell you....the Chainsaw is an AWESOME piece!!!!

I decided to drill my Chainsaw before I drilled my Agent Orange because I was looking for a smoother and more even reaction. Man does the Chainsaw deliver!

Here are some pics of the ball.....

http://www.dougsproshop.net/images/MyArsenal/Chainsaw4.jpg

With this layout I have a 5x4 with pin under. The weighthole is 2" below my PAP (5-1/4 right up 1/2).

This ball has big top weight and I wanted that for a reason....due to the lack of flip blocks on this core it is very static weight sensitive. So I had my rep hook me up with a higher top wt ball.

The ending statics of the ball are 15-0 gross, 3/4 side, 1/4 finger, 1-1/2 top.

The ball is so smooth and even on our wet/dry house shot I can't stand it! IF you want to play the oil line and still have a little room in and out without the risk of leaving big messes, the Chainsaw is the ball you need. I can't say it enough...this ball reaction is a must have for every bowler. The reaction here is very close to the fabled Storm Tour Power...tons of control but with power at the pocket.

I got the ball drilled exactly 5 minutes before practice started so I still needed to do a few tweaks to the thumb which kept me from having a stellar night but I shot 210-210-180 for a 600 on the nose out of the box.

I can't overstate it enough....a must have.....thanks to Chuck, Richie and the whole Lane 1 crew for giving the bowlers a control piece....

BALL SPECS
Pin Length - 3.5
Starting Top Weight - 3
Ball Weight - 15

DRILL PATTERN
Pin to PAP - 5
CG to PAP - 5
X Hole (if needed) - n/a
MB Location - No marked MB, but the implied MB is next to the thumb

Drill is pin over ring and cg stacked straight down

BOWLER STYLE
Rev Rate - 350
Ball Speed - 17
PAP/Track - 5 1/4 by 3/8 up

PICTURE AND VIDEO LINKS

SURFACE PREPARATION
Grit - OOB - about 2k wet sand and 1500 grit polish
Type (Matte, Polish, Sanded) - Polished but not like a marble

LANE CONDITION - THS
Length - 37
Volume - Light
Type (Wall, Xmas Tree, Sport) - Wall

BALL REACTION
Length - Great length, it just floats through the heads and out to the mids
Back End - Just when you think it isn't going to move, it makes a pronounced move left, but not a violent jerk
Overall Hook - Not a ton of hook, perfect for a burned up THS
Midlane Read - The Chainsaw starts to roll in the mids, but it doesn't overreact, it waits to make its move farther down the lane
Breakpoint Shape - Moderately strong arc with hold, makes it easy to stay off the beak when everybody else is throwing their arm out

COMMENTS
Carry - The Chainsaw hits like a Buzzsaw for sure
Likes - ON A TOTALLY BURNED THS - Easy length, roll in the mids without overreaction to dry, a nice controlled move to the pocket. You don't have to throw it hard!
Dislikes - None - it is an awesome tool for dry lanes. Just to be clear, it is not for oily lanes.

You know that shot that was there at the beginning of the night? The one that you wish was still there, but the lanes are burned.... Well, its still there, IF you have the right ball in your hand. When I can't keep my Evolution right of the headpin, I can play the chainsaw straight up the boards! When everything else, even a Neptune, snaps out of control at the end of the pattern, the Chainsaw is smooth as butter! This is a reaction you won't find anywhere else. If you're a tournament player, you will need this for those long blocks and 2nd shifts.

I was having problems of balls hooking through the nose.  I had the Chainsaw drilled up pretty tame.  The ball reacted nice.  I was standing on 19 hitting the 9 board at the arrows and letting the ball roll out the 4 board.  The ball hit like a truck.  I shot 226,235,256. My first 700 of the season. This is the smooth rolling ball I have ever had.  I highly recommand this ball.  Plus this being my first ever Lane#1 product I will be buying more.

not sure why I waited so long to punch one of these up but after doing so I am totally impressed with the versitility and down right performance of this "mid priced ball"

Me:
Speed at pin deck, 17-17.5
Revs 400 or so
decent side rotation when required

Ball:
15# 3 oz, 2.5" pin and 3.25 top

Drilling:
Was going to put my favortie drilling on it 50 x 4.5 x 40 or pin in ring cg stacked , but opted for a similar drilling pin above ring cg stacked (looking for a touch more length)

threw a few shots after drilling on a used up shot, and liked what i saw, didnt put a ton of effort into it but saw the potentional

Took the ball to vegas with me and used if for maybe 5 frames, didnt expect to have to swing it but once again liked the look i saw, the light hits mixed very very well

finally on my last league night i said the heck with it and threw it the whole set, was hoping to go up ten with a firm hand on the fresh, what I saw was a ball that wanted to roll out a little, not bad but not what I was looking for, since it was a fresh med heavy shot (read I usually use the dynamo first out, and can typically use it all three games) I wasnt sure i could swing it much, will i moved 8 boards left softened my speed up a touch and went at it.  for the record this was a 9 pin no tap to finish our league, first game i shoot 253 with no 9 counts all legit strikes, next game i shoot 300 with one 9 count in the mix (a fast 4 pin) last game i go 231 with an open but only 2 9 pin strikes.  I was amazed as the lane broke down, i firmed my speed up (from 16.5-18.75) and moved a little more direct inside and it was money.  I was udderly amazed at the carry this ball had, light, flush, heavy it seemed to carry all of them, i did see if i got too soft with speed I saw a little burn up, thus the open via a big split, but other then that which was operator erro, this little gem flat out performs, cannot wait to get the big brother to it the chainsaw massacre

Chuck was kind enough to send me one of these balls to do a video and review with, and when this ball arrived, I had no other information other than what was in the box.

I laid this ball out using a Dual Angle layout.

I filmed this ball on our normal house shot, and I realized quickly that this ball is made for light oil patterns.  I proceeded to move towards the gutter till I found enough burn to get this ball back to the pocket.  The ball motion is all about control.  This ball was extremely rollie.  I didn't have to worry about the ball over reacting on the lanes.

I tried this ball on the Cheetah pattern, and even with the extremely dry outside, the Chainsaw didn't over-reaction.

If you are looking for a ball to control burnt lane conditions, than this is the ball to put in your bag.

The ball: 15 pounds, 3.2 oz. top, 5-inch pin
The drill: Pin above ring about 1.5 inches, slightly towards being over the bridge, CG kicked negative just outside a line from the thumb to the middle finger. Works out to a 4.5 x 5.25 inch drill for me. No weight hole. Surface is box.
Me: PAP 4 over 3/8 up, tweener revs, decent speed, typically through with high axis rotation and low tilt.

---

My search for the perfect dry-lane ball led me to try the Chainsaw, in hopes of being able to consolidate an arsenal under the Lane #1 banner if I wanted to. I typically have filled that slot with either older balls or by specialty products such as Visionary's pearl urethane Slate Blue Gargoyle.

After getting this ball and seeing its pin distance, I decided to apply a variation of one of my favorite drill patterns to the ball. Typically, pins over the bridge or straight up over the ring work fine for me. I also sent the CG negative to get the theoretical mass bias of the symmetric core onto the track side of the ball. (I also had a complaint with the graphics on the ball -- see the end of this review for details.)

I've tested on three different shots, all in the same house (AMF HPLs, typically medium-dry). Early indications are the ball will perform but it does have its limitations due to the small differential.

The first test bed was the fresh open play this house lays down, which is typically a fair flat THS 3-to-3. Best look here was to play way outside, as in over 5 out to 1 or 2. That's a little too far out for me, but anything closer to the oil line hit flat.

Test two was on a strange, fresh league shot laid down for our draft scratch league. The end of the pattern felt like an inverted V. There seemed to be an OOB for any kind of ball outside 5, and from 5 in to 15 progressively hooked more the further to the middle I went. As such, the Chainsaw was unusable outside 5 and hit flat in the track, but it did offer great hold inside and allowed me to play deep, but I had to be precise.

Test three was on a post-birthday party shot with carrydown and dry outsides. The ball handled the super-dry outsides well and actually did fairly well further inside, although it was allergic to the heaviest carried-down areas.

As I've worked with this ball the last couple of weeks, some things have become apparent. One, this ball offers hold like no other. Two, it doesn't jump off the dry. But its third characteristic is this: It's not foolproof, and it's not going to cover up poorly thrown shots. There is virtually no recovery right in this ball on shots missed outside due to the low differential.

It's also a little stronger than advertised on the totally dry. If you play in a sandbed, you'll either need to drill this one weak or stick with plastic. But if you play medium-dry and less on a regular basis, this is a nice piece -- provided you don't ask it to be Superman.

---

Positives: Unmatched hold, tames dry backends, few things like it on the market.

Negatives: Sub-par recovery right, weak hit if there is oil anywhere near the breakpoint, sloppy quality control on the graphics at the 900Global plant.

Overall: A very unique, welcomed addition to anyone's arsenal, but it's not going to a miracle worker, especially for those with an inconsistent release.

Great ball for when your in that 3rd game and cant keep your ball away from the nose.. I had this one punched up pretty tame, can usually play a great down and in shot when heavy oil or can swing it when there burned up.  This is a ball that everyone should have in there bowling bag at all times.  One of the smoothest rolling balls I've thrown.

BALL SPECS
Pin Length -3
Starting Top Weight - 3.2
Ball Weight -14.3

DRILL PATTERN
Pin to PAP - 4 1/4, above ring finger
CG to PAP - 3 1/2
X Hole (if needed) - none
MB Location - Theoretical- just right of thumb
Drill Angle - 65*
VAL Angle - 40*

BOWLER STYLE
Rev Rate - 300
Ball Speed - 12-14
PAP/Track - 4 3/4> 3/8^ 13* tilt

SURFACE PREPARATION
Grit - Box - Polished- scuffed lightly with grey Scotchbrite

LANE CONDITION

Type (Wall, Xmas Tree, Sport) - THS, Fresh and old, Kegel # 6 ( Middle of the Road)

BALL REACTION
Length - Good
Back End - Strong Arc
Overall Hook - Medium
Midlane Read - Medium
Breakpoint Shape - hard Arc

COMMENTS
Carry - Good when used on right condition
Likes - Gets through heads easily, strong but controllable backend
Dislikes - Can be a little over/under in box finish
Other - This ball is deceptively strong for it's core numbers. It will get down the lane well in box surface and then make a very hard arc in the backend. On some conditions it can be slightly over/under. I fixed this by lightly scuffing with a grey Scotchbrite pad. The carry is very good as long as you don't swing it too much. The flare is only about 2". All in all, a great medium to dry lane ball! I am sorry it has been discontinued, hope lane #1 comes out with something equivalent.
