Title: Can I Use Lane #1 in Competition?
Post by: n00dlejester on January 04, 2019, 11:04:46 AM
Someone is donating me a Cherry Bomb! I had one a zillion years ago. Are they still allowed during league play and USBC sanctioned tournaments?

It's usbc sanctioned, so it's grandfathered in. Use away!

NP.  IIRC that ball has a PK18 derivative cover stock and have heard nothing but great things about that ball (Brunswick pours were the best).  May well find its the best ball in your bag for THS.  Good luck.

This thread reminds me, I have a Bloody Panther I need to drill. I had the Pink Panther and loved that ball. And it didn't hurt that I used it mostly in a Scratch Men's league where it just irritated the hell out of a lot of those guys. I would us a different ball for shadow and then once the lights came on, pull out the hot pink wonder and just kill them.

If anyone has thrown both the Pink and the Bloody, are the reactions similar?

I had 2 links and 2 bloodys.the bloody was sooner and stronger for about 10 games. Then the ball lost all life. And that was for both. The ball was truly between the Black and Pink. But for some reason, the cover quit when it absorbed a little oil. Hopefully others have a better review.

My Pink was the same way, maybe 10 to 15 games and it had to be sent back to the detox. After the detox, it would be awesome again though.

I got it used, I just figured it had been through a lot of cycles.

My 2 blacks and 2 pinks last over 100 games each before needing serious maintenance. I wasnt so lucky with the 2 Bloodys.

I had no idea Brunswick was pouring Lane#1 covers! That's great news. I'm really excited about the Cherry Bomb. I need something that's clean and boomy. I'll get some pics and maybe a video or two once it's done. Probably in a few weeks.

Yep they did until right before the last Uranium ball and then switched who was doing their pours (due to Big B production moving to Mexico, or other rumors depending on who you ask) and was kind of down hill after that (to be fair even Brunswick imo hasn't matched how hard they were crushing it with their coverstocks back then).  Only Lane 1 I have is a stealth bomber which was one of their last balls and its fairly condition specific and not a bad ball just nothing special really.

That's fair. I agree - Brunswick seems to have lost a lot of their classic arcy shape since moving to Mexico :(. Are Radical and DV8 also poured in Mexico?

Off topic but to be fair may have been less the move to Mexico and more it was hard to replicate the magic of PK18/Activator with stronger covers with newer additives (not as durable, soaked up more oil, hard to replicate shape, etc).  Read several reviews on here by people saying they noticed no difference between the same ball being made from the US to Mexico but they did rip on newer models with the Activator super duper plus max cover.  I will say I love throwing my older Brunswick balls but for true heavy oil my made in Mexico Forest Green Quantum is far better.  Would prefer it was made in the US but it is what it is.

Yeah, we've deviated a bit from me wondering about a Cherry Bomb, lol, but I love this insider info chat.

I feel like today's covers are so very aggressive, almost too aggressive. I find that lanes get over/under in a single game of 5-man teams. This is probably why Nationals started using 31, 32 units of oil the last few years.

I find older gear has more natural continuation. Making a modern ball continue as well involves more release manipulation than I can ever remember having to do. Which is probably why I have a few oldies in the bag for later in tournament blocks.

Older threat and OT but fyi picked up a used OG Curve and made the mistake of starting by knocking the polish off (3k Trizact finish).  Don't believe the reviews as that is one high friction ball on house shot.  Probably didn't help put more of a control layout on it.  I think it is probably at least as strong as my Raven.  Probably going to be one of the handful of balls I keep polished.  Just an FYI.
