I've shot well with them and without them.......go figure...I would try to find a used one if you want to give lane 1 a try.
-
Well here we go again. Here is my opinion.
1. Am I a die hard Buzzsaw fan? yes
2. Do I think they are good balls? yes
3. Do I think they are better balls? no
4. Should you buy one? If you want one then yes if not then no simple as it gets.
I like them because they are a smaller company and not many guys in my area throw them and yes they work well for my game. The price doesn't bother me. If I want other balls then I would get other balls. I have thrown track,columbia,storm,ebonite,brunswick,roto-grip,dynothane and have a couple of morich's to be drilled. Most all balls today are good for something or someones game.

I really like mine (I have 3), and here's why:
They seem to be predictable in reaction.
They seem to roll true.
they hit really, really hard.
I bought 2 of them used, and one at a decent price on Ebay, so I don't have any $300 bowling balls.
Would I be happy if I had to give them up? No.
Would I get by? Yes.
Does each ball fill a particular niche? Yes.
Do I only throw Lane #1 - HECK NO!!!
would I give up my other stuff and only throw Lane #1? Same answer as any other ball company - only if THEY paid ME to do it.

Garcia, once you put a BUZZSAW in your hand and execute your shot while paying attention to the lane condition, and the area of the lane you want to play you will know whether or not LANE #1 is for you.....and that goes for any other ball that you might want to bowl with.......>>>>>>>>THERE IS ONLY LANE #1

I agree with all the comments!

I have thrown many different bowling balls, storm, columbia, dynothane, just about all of them. I just recently started trying lane 1 this year and i must say i do see a different type of ball. It must be the diamond core because these lane 1 balls noticeably hit different. They seem to give more pin action. I bought a uranium and a golden nugget both brand new for 280 bucks. I have tried the emerald, pearl cherry, xl, xxxl, cherry bomb, black cherry bomb and soon the super carbide bomb and the xxl. To me I like em alot but i am not going to solely use only lane 1 balls.

The Lane 1 Uranium is second to none for me. The best ball I have ever owned. As for the rest of the Lane 1 balls, I cannot make that same statement as there are a lot of other balls out there just as good.

I have 3 lane 1 balls. Only been able to throw one. I bought them all used and one fits my hand like a glove. The cherry bomb is currently my favorite ball. Best ball I have thrown! Always seems to find the pocket and carry better. Maybe its just a good match for me... But I went out and got 2 other used lane 1's b/c i liked it so much. Shot my first 600's with it. Wouldnt trade it for anything.... Just my opinion....

Which Lane#1's are best? I mean, which ball would give me a good idea of the company's characteristics?
All companys have characteristics that most of their equipment share; Ebonite's are mostly midlane strong, Storm's are longer with backend, Columbia is similar to Storm but maybe stronger backend, Track is similar to Columbia but maybe a bit stronger in the midlane...
Which Lane#1 would most u guys recommend? I heard they were releasing a solid Uranium. Should I wait for that one? I havent had alot of success with the Pearl Activator coverstock, I thought I should wait for the solid version.
-
Uranium Solid is Ultimate Inferno with the Diamond core. Might not be a bad matchup, but I see the Ultimate core revving faster, so the Uranium Solid may be more versatile for different styles. I have a Golden Nugget and it's an alright ball. Nothing great but it is a nice even rolling, controllable piece. I got it off a user here named Shaggy for 30 bucks shipped and since I have won almost 10 times back my money with this ball. See my review for it, it's pretty in depth. I say the Nugget is their most versatile piece. You can't go wrong with particle pearl, the only problem that I see with alot of Lane 1 balls is you have to tinker with the surface to fit your game, alot of that stuff comes out of box at diamond gloss, making for terrible over-under. Once you find the right surface, you could fall in love with the ball(the Nugget that is). If you already like activator, the Uranium might not be a bad choice. I would get a used saw first before I shell out the big bucks for a new one.

I recently purchased two lane 1 balls
cranberry
xxxl
Cranberry is very similar to my demolition zone, actually I like my demo zone better; but since they are disc. the cranberry already; it probably wasn't one of there better balls.
I love my xxxl, most of the lanes in my area are dry on the outside by the second game, and this ball is just great playing straight up 7; and the hit is pretty awsome.
So I think your going to find good and bad with lane 1 just like any other company.
anyone selling used 15lb xxxl's send me a message.
-
I can only speak as to why they work for me.....
1. I get a better and more consistent roll with these balls than any other I have thrown.
2. I get more control with them than other balls.
3. I have a better strike percentage than I had before.
4. I get less over/under with them than others.
Again this is why they work for me. They may not be the reasons for other people but they are the reasons they work for me.

Ok lets turn this around, Why do you think storm or brunswick is so
good? Well they are good cause they jsut woprk for your game. It just
for alot of people that Lane#1 just works for them. If they want to pay a higher price for a ball then so be it. if they dont they can choose antoher
ball maker..

Out of the hundreds of posts (thousands?) that have been made about this subject, this is the most true & sensible explaination yet, so now we can close the book on this subject/topic and put it on the shelf forever, to gather dust. (however there are people out there that love to "stir the pot", so this probably won't happen)

I have thrown all the major makers now including Dyno, Storm, Track, Columbia, Roto Grip, and Ebonite. My Blueberry rolls more consistently than any ball I've thrown, despite small variations in release. BUT, I don't always carry with it, and it's not a magic bullet. On the shot it's laid out for, I love it, otherwise that's why I have an arsenal. They're good balls, worth a try. A lot of guys complain that they roll too early for them, so if you have a tendancy in that direction, drill it accordingly. The surface prep plays a big part in that too. JMO

Did someone say "Stir The Pot?" LMAO! While I have been known for my anti-Lane#1 comments in the past Garcia, allow me to give you some unbiased info based on the Lane#1 stuff I have thrown.
I have always had alot of hand in the ball. This being said, I DO like Lane#1's older versions...ie..CometPro, Teal, PurplePro, Black because they weren't as aggressive as the newer ones are. The newer Lane#1's, for MY game, require more ball speed for the revs I generate than I like to throw so I tend to shy away from them. Doesn't mean they suck or that they are overpriced and over-hyped. It simply means for MY game, the newer ones don't match up as well. As far as a similar comparison, keep in mind that the coverstock is Brunswick's while the core is certainly unique. The diamond core seems to "lope/tumble" more than anything BWick puts out to generate length. This core seems to offset Brunswick's tradition of early-moving coverstocks fairly well.
Hope this info helps at least a little. Perhaps my comments here will allow me to be removed from the Lane#1 Fanatic's Black List? LOL...j/k. As many have stated before, it truly comes down to matchup. If the matchup was dead-on, who wouldn't pay more or less for higher scores? Peace all!

Hmmmmm! Darren, if my memory serves me right, you are the one that used to stir things up by calling them "Boat Anchors" almost everytime someone made a post about Lane 1.

I am new to Lane #1 equipment. The Black Cherry Bomb is
my first Lane #1 ball. I have tried balls from other
manufacturers such as Storm and Brunswick. The Storm balls used
are a bit aggressive if I impart more revs on the balls. For the
Brunswick balls I use, I have to to impart move revs and greater
axis rotation. I find that the Lane #1 ball I use fits in middle
of those two, not too aggressive and not too mild for my type of
game. Ever since using the Black Cherry Bomb, I have been more
consistent in my game. I am looking try more Lane #1 equipment
in near future. Once I am comfortable with Lane #1 equipment,
I am looking forward to rearrange my ball arsenal which will be mostly
Lane #1.

Stop trying to convince yourself into buying one of these. Be smart and throw Track! Those of you who know me here knew that I would say something like that, huh?

Lots have stated .. THE BALL FITS MY STYLE (something to that effect). Truth is .. most LANE 1 balls are CONDITION SPECIFIC .. bowl on the right condition you feel like the ball is WORTH IT. Hit the WRONG CONDITION you feel like . I WAS ROBBED!.
The first week I had my GOLDEN NUGGET (when they were first released) I wrote that the ball was CONDITION SPECIFIC and LANE 1 people (fanatics) jumped all over me! Since then the comment has been made over and over again! As I said before if I wanted a CONDITION SPECIFIC ball I could get one a HECK OF A LOT CHEAPER!
I have got some TERRIFIC GAMES out of my GN .. but it's only been on the RIGHT CONDITION!

My arsenal comes from several different companies. The first ball out of the bag for me is a Rotogrip SD-73 drilled axis leverage---followed by a Blueberry Buzzsaw drilled for carrydown and a XXXL for fried lanes and or spares.
Do they work for me? Yes---otherwise I wouldn't be throwing them. I bought them used BTW. And there does seem to be a harder hit from the Lane#1 equipment. Are they game in a box?? IMO, NO----THAT COMES FROM PRACTICE,EXPERIENCE,AND ADJUSTING TO THE LANE CONDITIONS THAT NIGHT,PEOPLE.
So go from here....................

i would love to try lane 1, if there was one used at my pro shop i would buy it,
but i would not buy it new because I'm happy with what i got, and i don't have a job so i can't go out and buy 5-15 balls a year to try wish i did but i don't, and i would rather buy 1 master line and 1 of the lower lines from another company for almost the same price of 1 master line lane 1.
But if i fell in love with that 1 lane 1 ball i bought used 1 would never buy a ball from a different company again. someday when i get that job i will buy a brand new lane 1 if i can't find one used because i have been convinced.
-
I don't want to get in a long discussion with this .. we are all entitled to our opinions .. I've said The ball is CONDITION SPECIFIC .. your PROFILE (which I'm sure is not updated .. doesn't mention a GN) indicates that you bowl in two houses that are similar .. might it be that THE CONDITION FITS THE BALL! I think I stated that I've had some GREAT GAMES WITH THE GN ON THE RIGHT CONDITION!
You say MOST (or maybe you said ALL) balls are CONDITION SPECIFIC .. if that be the case .. WHY PAY MORE FOR ONE? Please .. I only answered your comment .. I pass on the subject .. I've answered the original question in the very first response to the topic! Further discussion on my part is just NOT WORTH IT!
ON EDIT: As far as LANE 1 misrepresenting the ball .. that's impossible to respond to .. LANE 1 doesn't say what condition the ball is best used on. Guess that's MY CONCLUSION!

Before the latest round of discontinues, Lane #1 was doing a very nice job of covering the spectrum of lane conditions from short and light all the way through long and heavy. Seems they've left a bit of a gap in the middle as of late. I have no doubt they'll fill it.
To agree with Mumzie and others, personally, I like the control/predictability of the Lane #1 stuff. I like hard arc over skid snap, but that is my own preference.
The only drawback to the Lane #1 stuff seems to be the price.

I agree with Joe as all my saws are condition specific, but so are my Hammers and storms....after all,is'nt that part of the fun in bowling?
-
Just get this freakin ball, its the best ball I'v ever used and is a backend monster. Plus hits and carrys 10 times better than any buzzsaw i've seen.

Song of the Week: Infected by Barthezz
Here is my life in a nutshell:
--My computer is so screwed up that you could throw it out the window and it might work better.
--Not only that, but I still am obsessed with trance and get bashed for it every day.
--I havent bowled in over three weeks and have fear of the tournament coming up in three weeks.
--I have to ride a two hour bus trip to summer school.
And my only reaction all day is this:
Who else but Maelstrom Axiom
-
I started my lineup with the Super Carbide, later came the Blueberry, then the Cherry Bomb and last was the XXXL.
Reading this, most would assume I am a Buzzhead, but I am not. I really like the roll and hit of these products. But after using Saws for an extended period and on a wide scale of conditions (international), it's save for me to say that for me they aren't better or worse then other balls.
If they suit your game, go for it. You won't disappointed. But don't expect wonders from them. They are just bowling balls. Very good ones, but not wonderballs.
Since the 1.5 years I have been using them, I think my technique has changed in a way that other balls suit my bowling a bit better now. I have been in a fortunate situation that some balls were given to me, and that situation opened my eyes. Building an arsenal from one brand (while you aren't on the staff) is imho not wise. Why limit yourself?
For this fall and some summer tournaments I use a 9 ball arsenal. It includes AMF, Storm, Brunswick, Track, Ebonite and Lane #1. All these balls have they own unique caracter and I think all will help me given the situation.
-
the only problem with lane 1 equiptment is that its overpriced. its alot like how quantum was in the 90's. there would be a bigger following if the prices were more competitive. i have thrown some lane 1 stuff and i think they are great.....are they worth 200 dollars?? no, not when i can get a another brand of ball that is just as good for 50 to 75 dollars cheaper.
if you want to spend the extra money for a lane 1 then do it. but i wouldnt
-
Mike, 2 balls that don't work, or work as well, are not better than 1 ball that does work/work better. I'm not saying that a Lane 1 ball will work better for you or not, I'm just stating a point. =:^D
