Title: Golden Nugget drilling?
Post by: Gene J Kanak on May 03, 2004, 08:13:06 PM
Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of creating a 6-ball Lane 1 arsenal. The Golden Nugget is going to be a part of that, and I'm looking for some drilling info. I want this ball to be my go-to option for when the heads are starting to go but there is a little bit of carrydown AND/OR when I want to go deep inside to open up the lane. I want good length and a hard, continuous bite on the backend. I'm thinking label. Any thoughts? I'm a right handed power stroker who can crank it up a bit when I need to. I have a high track and throw around 17-18 mph.

Gene, I have Label Drilling and 7/8 oz. side weight and a 2 3/4" Pin on my GN and it does what you want if there is oil in the heads. When the heads start to go, my Uranium which is also label drilled with 0 side weight and a 2 1/2" Pin is the ball that works best for me. As for moving deeper with the GN and the type cover it has, it looks like it would work when you move in deeper, but I can't tell you it does or does not as I can't play the "deeper line."

Ok, here are my suggestions,

Heavy Arc: Black Cherry Bomb / CG Leverage
Heavy Hook: Uranium Buzzsaw / Label

Medium Arc: Cherry Bomb / CG Leverage
Medium Hook: Golden Nugget / Label

Light Hook: Buzzsaw XXL / Thumb Leverage

Spare: Buzzsaw XXXL / Pin Axis

This arsenal concentrates on coverstocks rather then cores, it should work, but I think it would be a very large hooking arsenal...

As for the Nugget, I would go with the Label drill, it suits the ball.

One more thing, I don't personally think that Lane #1 has the best range of balls for a "Complete" arsenal.

Aussie youngster,

I believe he simply asked for advice for drilling the GN.

As for drilling, 5x4 would get decent length and would get the ball to continue.  I'm not certain though if any particle pearl would enable you to open up the lane from deep as well as a pearl reactive.

Urethane Game,

I know that, and I did address that in my post, I simply gave more advice as to what balls should be included into he's soon to be created...

And if it was wrong of me to give more then what was required, I'd be happy to take it back...

I'll agree with UG on this one....

5x4 will work well but remember it is a pearl PARTICLE so you will still need head oil unless you like that "so shiny you can shave in it look".

I have mine done 4x3 with pin above and right of ring and the ball is phenomenal when I need to get into the middle, swing it and still cut thru the carrydown.

I do have mine polished with Track ProTracktion and Black Magic.

I like the 5x4, but also would like a 4 1/2 x 4, as that is what I have, and your speed is the same as mine, although I may have more revs.
