Drilled and wet sanded a Tsunami to offset..
« on: February 28, 2006, 12:53:42 AM »
I had drilled my first tsunami with the pin under the ring finger and the MB under the thumb box condition.  This ball was great when there was strong back ends, no carry down and not a long oil pattern.  I had a second Tsunami lying around that I purchased used with very little games on it.  I drilled this one much stronger. Kinda like a revs leverage drilling.  Pin to the right and below the ring finger MB stacked then wet sanded the ball to 800.  The reaction of this second Tsunami in oil was tremendous.  The two different Tsunamis had totally different ball reactions (as hoped and expected).  Where as the first Tsunami sailed in the oil and the second Tsunami started up earlier read the mid lane better and cut through the carry down even better then expected.  I was hopin since the Tsunami was a solid that wet sanding the ball wouldn't kill the ball's reaction. Not a heavier oil ball but much better on longer oil patterns and med/heavy oil conditions.

Thanks for the insight Nic, I was thinking of the same thing (very similar layout as mine).  Would a scotch brite work the same as wet sanding?

Saw Mill,

I wet sanded the ball to 800 on a spinner.  Don't know if one of the scotch brite pads would do the same thing.  Then I finished the ball with neo-Tac Re-New It after I shot a set with it wet snanded,  The ball wet sanded to 800 held up very well in the oil.  With the Renew-It, the ball got a litte more length and a little stronger back end.

Sorry I couldn't answer your question. Maybe a pro shop operator on the forum can answer this question.

Dave, wet sanding is just a "term" for using liquid with any type of abrasive, scotch brite, paper, or abralon .....so yes,.....water and or cleaner w/ a scotch brite would be considered a wet sand.

I usually clean the ball at the same time but I use a scotch brite when I want to do a quick re-surface/scuff.

Jeff,

I know we go through this often, but which color scotch brite pad is equal or close to 800?

Thanks,

Nic,

I know that the green is about 600, and I might be wrong, but I believe that 800 would be the gray.

I thought the gray was 1000.  But what is the burgundy and the green?

Cut and paste from Charlest from some time back.

7445 - White pad, called Light Duty Cleansing - 1200-1500 grit
7448 - Light Grey, called Ultra Fine Hand - 1000 grit.
- Aqua – 800 grit
- Green – 600 grit
7447 - Maroon pad, called General Purpose Hand - 320 grit
6444 - Brown pad, called Extra Duty Hand – 240-220 grit
7446 - Dark Grey pad, called Blending Pad – 150-120 grit

For me, anything finer than the green pad requires a lot of pressure to see any difference.
