Lane#1 not for me
« on: April 22, 2003, 05:03:04 PM »
After a year of using lane#1 stuff I have come to the conclusion that maybe there equipment may not be for me or my style.I have seen an 13-15 pin drop in average across four leagues.I have shot few high series and high games with them but just not the average I am use to.I recently used them in a regional and drowned with no carry "conducive to layouts not ball" but feel that I should of struck a few more times than I did.I do love the silver diamond and will keep it.I need skid snap and thats what it gives me.The blueberry was awesome but tracked in and cracked after few games so I didn't drill another.Super carbide bomb this ball sucks hooks like crazy on a typical house shot, want move on oil when I have other stuff that does, even after changing the cover a few times with trizact pads.I can make a better arsenal out of 50-70 dollar balls that fit my style than spending 130-170 for buzzsaws that dont.My advice is find out what fits your game and what you like.Lane#1 has a few balls for different styles to cover a small spectrum from skid snap to midlane but have yet to find a pure big oil ball from them the closest to it was the LRG,But I still found better oil balls for me.Dont get caught up in the hype the balls are good but not magical. For those of you who stand by lane#1 thats great I applaude you they must match up great for you.I just cant justify spending the extra 80-100 dollars for a ball that I can do the same thing with regardless of maker or price.Dont get me wrong track columbia and etc all make overpriced balls that can be bought in a lesser line if you research the equipment.Lane#1 just seems to be hyped up a little to much. Thanks for reading and the comments to follow.

I strongly believe that certain general core shapes are conducive to certain styles of bowling.  I noticed even before I discovered Lane #1 balls that cores that are fat in the middle and narrow at the top and bottom tend to suit my game, so it came as no surprise that Buzzsaws work very well for me.  I also tend to do better with smooth arcing balls (and/or drillings) so that suits the general Buzzsaw look as well.  I can easily see that Buzzsaws may not be for everybody, especially since there is little variation in core shape.  I can also see Buzzsaws not suiting a game that likes a skid/snap reaction; which confucius says he likes.  It does seem to me that it's possible that almost anyone could benefit from a Buzzsaw look on lanes that are spotty or otherwise weird and unpredictable.  Go with what works, I say.

I agree with Confucios.  My first Lane 1 was the pink one.  I tried 2-3 different drillings, umpteen surfaces, just could not get the ball to work on my conditions.  Threw it in the closet until last year.  Oil pattern got longer and deeper.

Now it matches up extremely well.  I use it, the Bomb pearl and the Silver.  These 3 cover most of the conditions I normally run across.

Like the Shiv, I prefer a hard arc compared to the skid/snap.

Different strokes/different folks.

I have tried many of bowling balls from other companies and I personally am glad that Lane#1 is around. The equipment works great for me with the exception of the XL. But like I have stated before, Lane#1 is not the solution for everyone. Some people won't try different equipment because of hype or because there buddies make bad comments. I see it like this; if you don't try it you will never know.
