what's up w/ this?
« on: December 21, 2005, 04:22:51 AM »
Ok, so the house shot is now very slick from 4 to 4.  I started out last night with my Pro purple.  You could see that it was slick, but there were no visible oil rings on the ball.  Switched to a Roto particle piece and, voila, oil rings aplenty.  Why no visible rings on the purple?  I had just finished a pretty good surface cleaning and am a bit puzzled at this.

I'm not sure exactly why but remember that the Pro Purple and the Riot Zone had the new, more durable particle (Pro-Active) coverstock. My Riot Zone with upteen-million games on it has never even needed to be re-surfaced once. It still hooks the entire lane, almost. I rarely see oil rings on it. So why look a gift horse in the mouth? You're complaining ????

most likely the flare is far greater on the roto ,and therefore more of the coverstock covered the lanes making the oil more visible on the ball??

The same amount of oil spread over 4 or 5 rings has to be MUCH more visible if piled onto to 1-2 rings in the same spot ....UNLESS this coverstock sucks it up like the new Ebonite The One or like Dyno-Thane's Soaker coverstocks.

But, basicaly, who cares what happens to the oil if the ball with this SUPER-DURABLE coverstock continues to retain its ball reaction AND hitting power over thousands of games??
