Straight Flush "Mini-Review"
« on: August 15, 2006, 11:31:01 PM »
15 lbs, 3 oz TW,
cg 3.5” off the PAP, 2” pin "stacked" above,
13/16" WH located 2" past the PAP and on the midline
(gives me around 1/2 oz pos side weight).

Right-hander, standing 16, "squared up" and rolling up first arrow; my hand position was fully under the ball so as to position myself for a straight "up the back", forward roll release.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!

Roomies,
I rolled the new Lane Masters three-piece reactive resin Straight Flush (designed for drier lane condition - high RG and low Diff) for the first time this evening after second shift of night leagues on THS (synthetic lanes and they were "fried"); I rolled 3 practice balls to check the thumb fit and release "feel" (all strikes) then a five bagger, 8 spare (4-7), double, baby split spare (3-10), double and ringing 10 pin for a 247 !!! The cover of this ball allowed the ball to glide through the heads and the midlane and the core gave me more than enough back end "pop" to carry and shred the rack.
On the 3 "non-strikes", it was because I didn't stay behind the ball and come up the back of the ball or I tugged it a little too much.
I consider this a verey good ball and does EXACTLY what it was designed to do !!!
GREAT job, Legends/Lane Masters !!!

Thanx, Jim ... I'm very happy with it; I'd rank it right up there with the Desert Heat that I had and sold, although I think that this one, because of the Galen recommended layout, is even cleaner through to the breakpoint. The DH had a 4x2 layout, which was recommended by the TRACK gurus, and work well for me too, but it was too strong at times for those "burnt/dry" conditions that late leagues and the end of 2nd shift bring.
 Thanx again !!!

Robb,

I replied in email, but I think it's the pearlized cover PLUS the high RG core PLUS the extremely low RG differential (potential flare) that allows this ball to get better than average length. The Desert Heat was not a great length ball, in its basic design, but it had very low RG differential and great hit.

Don't forget Galen had you add a bit of power to this ball with the CG placement and the weight hole. That's an old fashioned trick drillers used when we had only pancake core balls: put the pin close to leverage distance from the PAP and put a weight hole on or past the PAP. It gave those "plain" a large jolt of hooking power.  I suspect it will give the SF a lot less added power.

I think I'll just put as much finger and side weight in mine, (still putting the pin up as high as I can, just for the "halibut"), as I can. Can alway sre-drill it.

By the way, excellent sooting with the now "toy".

How do these lanes start out? I mean howmuch oil do they start with and where does the dry begin?

Thanks. Keep up the good work.

Jeff,
I'd have to ask what they lay out for us ... plus, that part of the game is NOT my forte' and I need to get smarter about knowing for many reasons.

DOn't have to ask. just see what balls are needed to score well and get a good reaction. The type of ball + the type of bowlers usually gives you a good read on the pattern and the relative amount.

Oh ... ok; I was making it more complicated than it is then, huh ???

Well, normally the lanes are broken down a bit already since that league bowls the 2nd shift; the better bowlers have to chase the oil line and open up the lanes or switch to less agressive equipment (the latter being me). This league normally won't allow you to use the high-end and more aggresive stuff unless the are very versatile with you hand postions and ball speeds (not me, but I'm working on it).
