Title: 3 balls
Post by: Jeffrevs on April 13, 2006, 01:34:33 AM
Hey Legion ......

Can you suggest a 2 ball league combo, and/or a small 3 ball arsenal?

notes:
 1)I don't see extremes

 2) please tell me which ball is from which line too, I'm not 'that' familiar w/ L/L stuff ...but I am interested!

Hi Jeff,
I know that Anne-Marie Duggan(PBA pro, title winner, and pro shop owner/driller/co-owner of BowlingBallMall) recently won a Regional tournament (according to her husband, Pat) and she was using the Big Bang, World Class, and The Buzz. She joined Legends/LaneMasters staff last year after many years with STORM ... she was impressed with that 3 ball lineup. If I had to choose two for a league with the normal THS, I would say the World Class and The Buzz ... WC is particle with a large, strong core and The Buzz is a pearl reactive. My 2 cents ...

Jeff,
No problem-o; WC is Legends, and the Big Bang and The Buzz are LaneMasters ... the link below is to the ONLY place that sells all three right now(Pat and Anne-Marie Duggan).

I do work! sometimes.
Thrusday, Fri & Saturday - long, hard hours.
I'll chime in eventually.

Mr. Revs, do you prefer flippy balls or smother balls?
Do you want medium-light + medium or medium + medium-heavy type of balls?

I have a 4 ball lineup in my signature.  I like the Big Bang, The Buzz, and The Absolute Power.  In that order.  My Tropical Storm is for when I'm on a tournament condition that needs something kind of weak.

I prefer 'generally' smoother stuff ......a little pop is ok, but i don't like "flippy"....
Medium-heavy and a medium-light .....just do 2 of them.....give me a good ball to start w/ on a fresh THS ...then one for when they start to break down...so I guess I'd say, yes.......give me a Med-heavy ball, and a medium-light ball....

Jeff you don't feel like getting a vanguard piece.  Leaving Morich?  Well anyways, I had the New Standard and liked it quite a bit.  The only thing I didn't like was that it seemed to shine up alot quicker (2 or so games) than my other sanded stuff and when it did, performance for me dropped like a rock.  Their cleaner is great though so you should be able to keep the finish pretty good.  The NS seemed to work well for fresh or med/heavy.

Jeff,

For smoothness, for medium-light to medium-heavy, my feeling is that you can't beat my two favorite Lanemasters balls: the Lanemasters Absolute Power and Legends New Standard. I'd keep the NS to about a 4"pin but given the strength of the AP, I'd suggest a 5" pin, as I have mine (but I added an extra dose of polish to mine). On the NS, I strongly suggest NO polish. If you want to handle slightl ylighter oil, try a 1500 or a 2000 grit sanding. (I have my NS currently at 2000 grit Abralon.)

Note: for most Lanemasters balls, I find placing the pin higher than the bridge area (e.g. above the ring finger) adds length and forces the ball to only be capable of handling a lesser degree/amount of oil.

I have actually found only the Masterpiece to be a truly flippy ball. I am working on making mine slightly more controllable without changing the drill (a 5"x4", pin at bridge height). SO far the 4000 grit Abralon finish seems great, but testing is not complete yet.

Jeff,
Charlest has it nailed, as usual ... if medium-heavy and medium-light balls are what you want, the NS and the AP are tops !!!
If you've never had a Legends/Lanemasters ball, I highly recommend that go to legendbowling.com and check out the info on those balls, and also that you call and speak to Galen at Legends with your ball info (PAP, ball speed revs, etc) and use that extensive knowledge that you have and "team up" with him to maximize those balls potential for you, your style, and the results that you're looking for ... keep us informed !!!
BTW, the NS is a Legends ball and the AP is LaneMasters ... you can access the info on both from the Legends website (for the LaneMaster site, go to the header and click on the LaneMasters site to call it up).

No....not "leaving" Morich. I very well may add a vangaurd peice next season........but I've heard so much about L/LM that I was wondering what would be nice to try or to have for a league combo.  Keeping mind, this does NOT change my affection for my Hercules'!!

Jeff.....so the AP is pretty strong then......is that the reason for the 5" pin ? Above or below? CG out or stacked ?

OK< this tells me that below would be best ?

Thanks as always.....

What is box for the NS, and what would you suggest as a grit if not box.  I foresee the AP at 2000 abralon.  It's a nice med-light to lighter cover prep 'for me' .....

thoughts?

The find the AP fairly strong, mine has pin just below center of bridge, CG kicked out about 1 1/4" from grip line. No weight hole.

All the LM/L solid particles, AS FAR AS I KNOW, are finished like this: High gloss polish folowed by a grey nylon pad.

Don't sand the pearls until you have tried them several times. I added some polish to my AP. I have 2000 grit abralon on my Masterpiece to make it hook earlier than the stock polish; I had to take it to 4000 grit to make it slightly earlier and less fippy - still makes a very hard turn. At 4000 grit, my MP is almost stronger than my NS at 2000 grit. I say "almost" because it may have been the oil or the lane surface at one place where I found this; so that result is only tentative.

Guys,

I've spoke to Galen with all my info ....and I've decided that I would add 2 balls to my 2 Hercules and get rid of my Mayhem.  So, I'd go with a 4 ball arsenal, 2 Mo, 2 L/LM.

After discussing,.....he suggested that not only was the NS and AP a good fit, but...he also said that a WC and a Masterpiece would work nice as well.

I'm going to be following up with him soon to go over more details but just wanted to let the Legion know what's going on.

More suggestions are welcome

Suggestion: don't get rid of ANYTHING, until you're 100% positive about the replacement, nomatter which ball and which brand it is.

I'll take that suggestion!! Thanks!  However.......I was going to drop the Mayhem before considering L/LM.  It's a nice ball, but nothing special like my Hercs.
