Sting cover: polished or sheen?
« on: August 30, 2007, 11:51:32 PM »
All the Sting literature says the stock cover is "sheen". Now, all previous Legends/Lanemasters ball with a "sheen" finish were sanded with a grey, 800 grit pad over a high gloss polish. Since you could see the sanding lines AND the polish, the overall effect was something in the neighborhood of a 1500 grit sanded matte finish.

One person here on ballreviews noted his was polished and when I post a reply asking what he meant, he never replied. I just practiced with a friend and his Sting had a high gloss polish, which he said was the way it came out of the box.

Has Lanemasters changed their definition of "sheen" or just changed the ball?

What did your Sting look like when you first took it out of the box?

Thanks.

My Sting was polished, box finish, I say with a gloss.  It did not bite at first, took the gray pad to scuff it up and wow, what a difference.  For me, a stroker, with the pin above the ring finger, drilling based on my PAP, it wasn't moving for me at first.  I have about eight games on it, averaging around 235 with it.  It goes a little longer than the Terminator and I only have to move one board in three games.  Holds the line well, snaps and explodes the pins on impact.

You can see the sanding lines.  Polish, scuffed with a grey pad OOB.

"Grit prepped" per the web site's specs (and some prior experience), polished, wet 800 gray pad, and repolished; I have since knocked that polish off with a 1000 grit white pad ... slightly earlier read than in OOB (which should have a stronger backend), and more of a strong arc/move to the pocket. I did this to maintain separation in my arsenal.
