World Class R or Big R Bang
« on: March 12, 2007, 07:49:45 PM »
My AP is pretty much coming to the end of its useful life and I want a ball that is stronger in the back but will give me a good length also.

I have a friend who has the B-R-B and it works very well at our centre. Thats why I was wondering what comparisons anyone has between the two as I dont really want the same as him.

Is there really that much difference between the 2 or are they both just simply awesome?

Also can someone post the BTM numbers for length, shape and overall hook for the B-R-B as I have them for the WCR and Id like to know the differences they found. Or can someone post me the link to the updated Ball Spreadsheet that Ken Clay made.
Thanks everyone.

Not sure who Ken Clay is, but here an Excel version of the BTM charts:

http://www.allbowling.com/downloads/Balls.xls

My 2 cents:

The WCR and the BRB will relate to one another in the same was as the World Class relates to the Big Bang:

They will handle the same amount of oil (medium-light to medium oil) but in a different manner. WCR is earlier, while the BRB is longer. Both will have, under average circumstances, a fairly sharp breakpoint (varying with drilling and, much more importantly, with the bowler's ball speed and release). The BRB will APPEAR to handle less oil because of its greater length.

If you have a lot of ball speed relative to your rev rate or if you have a lot of axis tilt or rotation, I'd go with the World Class. If yo uhave a more end over end release of a small axis tilt or lower ball speed, I'd suggest you go with the Big-R-Bang.

Thanks to hiflush for the numbers.

Thanks to charlest and urbanshaft for your thoughts.

charlest thank you for doing the in depth work as I know you always do. Thats helped make me feel a little better on both balls. I think both should suit what Im looking for.

The Big-R-Bang may be the best choice but I dont think the WCR would be a bad one either. Ball speed off my hand is around 19mph and rev rate is 290 to 320.I do have a lowish axis and a more end over end release though.

Once again many thanks to all.

I obviously haven't watched you bowl, but at least in theory, my stats are somewhat similiar to yours, and I have to tell you, I love the World Class, although I must admit that I make fun of it's looks.  Old school Blue with Gold lettering-- I call it the Grandpa Ball.

The ball is very consistent, strong and picks up a roll, but be aware that like a lot of LM's stronger stuff, definitely needs oil up front.  For me, it hooks up well with end over end rev, too, is nice and clean on the backend, no overeaction on tricky shots.  It has also lasted F-O-R-E-V-E-R for me-- 1000 games or more with no resurface, with some loss in reaction, but not as much as other balls I've thrown in the past that had to be retired earlier-- no ball death, and no loss of carry.

I suck, but I am learning and taking lessons.  I shot a 246 with semi-fried heads after league tonight with the WC.  My high game, a 277, was with this ball, including some blind luck on some shots carrying too close to the nose, wallshots, etc.  The ball straight out out-carries anything I've ever thrown.

I haven't thrown the B-R-B, but I'm sure it's a great ball, heck, for my money, everything I've ever thrown by Legends/LM has been great.  Are you looking for an angular reaction or smooth consistent roll?  How much oil does the ball need to handle?  That's what I would ask myself.
