Galen Chat
« on: August 07, 2006, 03:37:12 AM »
I spoke to Galen from L/L about which drilling pattern best suits me. I don't know my PaP, axis tilt, speed, and rev rate. Would anyone know how or where i can get these numbers? I'm more of a cranker so i kno my rev rate is high and ball speed is a lil above average.

Is there anyway to determine my PaP and Axis tilt by looking at a layout of a ball that i like?

If I like the way a ball is reacting, should I drill all my balls with the same layout or should i change it up?

- Pro Shop measured my PAP.
- Mo Pinel once published a formula for obtaining the axis tilt from the bowler's initial ball track diameter in Bowling This Month magazine about 4-5 years ago. I used that formula.
- I estimated rev rate from comparison with other bowlers with known rev rates. CATS can measure yours if you're in Las Vegas or Florida.
- Ball speed is measured by several different houses with measuring devices on each lane. Those centers with Qubica lanes usually have built-in ball speed guns/devices, but at the rear of the lanes. Also obtainable from comparison with those with know ball speeds. Also can be measured with a stop wtach and a conversion formula to get an average ball speed. The lane is 60 feet long, from foul line to front (or center) of head pin.

I thought i was the only one who didn't know his numbers. I guess we can both learn something huh SGC300

that sounds like a lot of work. I'm not sure if the lanes i bowl on has the timer on it also..

Would you still have the formula for the axis tilt?

Does anyone know where to get that MO chart NeverLearn is speaking of?  Could someone upload it and post if they still have it?

Ebonite has it on there site under tech tips, brian pursel originally wrote the article that is still there. Lots of good reads for techies to learn about drilling and ball dynamics. There is also a great site from europe that used to be linked from a br post, a pro shop owner actully show a ball being drilled up on his site and how he came up with exact mb to pap and pin to pap numbers.
